True love takes affection, sex, and caring about each other. If something important is missing, things will fall part.

True love can happen more than once; however, it's easier (IMHO) to find the first time around, when a couple can grow together. My experience shows that couples will have a lot of personal baggage to overcome when trying to find love again. Lightening can strike twice in the same place, but I don't believe I'll be that lucky again.

DFK, I think you are EXACTLY correct in that it is "easier the first time around"!

I think if things don't work out perfectly the first time, we get a little jaded or maybe AFRAID is a better word. Once you experience a broken heart, who wants to go through that again?

I think people put up walls that have to be overcome in order to love again.

I definitely feel that you can love more than one person and I think you can be IN love with more than one person. Typically if you ARE in love with that special someone, you probably aren't going to be "running into" anyone else that this might happen with. You think? Does this even make sense?

LonesomeDove, you write very well and I would enjoy reading anything you would care to elaborate on!

vnurse - I think you are spot on. In my case I'm a widower. The more time passes the higher her pedestal becomes. Not long ago I was talking to my kids & started waxing whimsical about their mother. My oldest daughter started giggling over one ideal I had praised their Mom on. "Daddy," she interrupted, "I remember Momma driving you nuts over that..." Yeah, the girl is right. Part of my baggage that's preventing true love again is the myth I've created from the first one. The other is how much the loss still hurts.

Yes, loss is a VERY painful thing and it is VERY difficult to get over. Just MY opinion (I ABSOLUTELY do NOT mean this as sexist!) but I truly believe that men have a more difficult time "getting over" relationships whether it be through divorce, death, any reason. That has just been my life's observations.

Time DOES heal but the mind is a very powerful trap that can affect you for a long, long time!
