Exactly.

No one denies it's a "business". But I think we are a slightly different group of people, in the Hobby. It's all about no strings, no annoying hours of awkwardness, etc. We know why you want us, and we know when to leave. I think it all boils down to 2 different types of people, the "givers" and the "takers". Balance is being both, equally.

Yes, I agree. And I see the "giving" and "receiving" to be more causal. The more you give, the more you receive. The more you take, the less you receive.

There, how's that for esoteric?

All kidding aside (which is a violation of the terms of my agreement), I think human relationships alone have this potential.

Idealism rocks.

So if I brought you a Dynavector XV-1S, you'd be ok with that?

I never give a provider a gift other than cash for the same reason they don't. It's personal. The type we give a SO or a good friend. I really believe that giving a gift is crossing the line on a personal standpoint. I know alot of providers don't like this but how many times have you given a good hobbyist a gift. I would guess none as it is personal to you also and you know how it is when a provider gets too close. It's not good. Just accept a cash tip for a great session.

I personally love surprises, I have a wish list and a few have picked up those things and it was so exciting to know 1. they give me thought 2. they read my information and 3. when a lady is excited the sessions go's Real Good for both because I am grateful and he definitely knows. That's one of the reasons I love p411, because the guys also have a chance to put his likes and dislikes as well. It gives us ladies a good idea of what makes that gentleman happy

When you guys can read what the thread is about, come back and post again. This thread is about gifts outside the hobby. The question is, would you rather have an SO give you a gift you may not like, or cash which allows you to get something you want?

Charles, I understand your frustration with the way topics get changed but that's the way of the D&T you know. Nevertheless, round em up, cowpoke and get em back in line.

Charles, to be fair you just said, "men."
You didn't distinguish between clients or non-clients.
That's probably why you got the varied answers...
Either way, my response applies to both.

If a woman digs you, practically any gift is appreciated in form if not in substance. If she doesn't dig you, only the substance matters.

I personally do not consider money to be an appropriate gift. Money is a medium of exchange that is used for rendering payments for goods and services; and not appropriate -- especially for an S.O.

I also do not buy women intimate things as a rule. Stuff like lingerie. Anybody with a brain would know that such a "gift" would really be for *me*.

The things I have found that S.O.s really appreciate fall into three separate categories:

1. A gratuitous waste of money on intrinsically useless items. Examples include flowers, consumables, jewelry, etc.

2. Brutally utilitarian albeit expensive items such as computers, cell phones and the like.

3. Anything that demonstrates that you paid attention. You get bonus points if it is something that you absolutely detest (such as a boxed set of DVDs for some show that you will never watch), or involves some self-sacrifice.

(*grin*)
