Showcase vs. Website
another provider & i were wondering if a website is that essential to have.
this is the only site i advertise on, and the showcase has everything a website has.
(i know, i know, ...i shouldnt put all my eggs in one basket...but thats my choice for now )
so which do you guys prefer, our website or our showcase?
what are the cons of not having a website, when you have a showcase?
(other than the obvious, only guys familiar with this site would know theres a showcase)
*im trying to decide if i need to keep my website. im so horrible about kepping it up to date.
thanks for reading & your replies!

Showcase is easier for me & if you don't advertise on other sites then it probably serves you just as well. I guess a site could come in handy when you travel to other cities where ECCIE is not as popular.

I believe both are essential. What you may not be able to post on hobby sites. You can make hobbyists aware of, via your website.
One needs to also take into consideration; that not every hobbyist ventures to nor participates on Eccie or other well known sites. Thus making your website a valuable hobby tool for both provider & hobbyist a like.

I think both too. Since Eccie can be a little restrictive on what information you can put on the site you may want to keep your options open by maintaining your own website.

If I might read into WMs' words, she is correct.
As a Hobby person, there are some sites I can't post reviews to *if* the only point of contact is on another site.
Example: there is a review I posted not too long ago here on Eccie but won't post on another site because the only contact info is on Eccie. I think the other site does not allow linking to another hobby site for contact.
I don't think that applies to you but just to let you know of a case in point.

I think you are better served with more than one location for people to see you on. BUT, if you do not keep the website up, it will be worse than not having it. People expect the info and pics to be current and are not happy if they find they are not. So, as you were saying, put in more effort on the website or let it go.
And for precious b, I agree it is terrible if a website does not allow contact info back to a free website. We are all in it together.

i have both and personally my sight is just a pain in the but i dont have the social aspect and i like that it is hard for me as a student to find the time to chat here and post, but to keep my sight up to date and keep track of it all has just proven a huge hassle for me... but it is different for each of us...

It is best to maintain both a website and the showcase. The showcase is mostly used (from my experience) for members to access and view. Many providers show rates that are lower than their own website rates, or P411 ads. Websites are good to have for those clients that never visit sites like ours. Thru your site you can add many more photos than here and in many cases higher rates, have member's only access to private photos or specials that only a member of your site is privy to. It is an option to use to give a provider more flexibility to run her business. After all it is a buisness, that is very enjoyable.
So Amaya, on your next trip to Houston ,perhaps we can discuss this more in private, in public or just skip the discussion all together..and get down to "business"..........lol....... ............................HH HHMMMM!!

I suppose that it depends on which clientele your trying to capture.
Both perhaps is preferable, at least it keeps your options on the table.
Apart from enjoying the photo galleries, I do enjoy reading through the provider's pages.
It reveals a bit more on their thoughts & creativity.
IMHO
