What a ride!!!!! I won't be walking normal for a couple of days..

Ok this is not what you think. I have always loved horses and always wanted to try horseback riding. Today I had my first lesson and it was great!!! I just didn't realize how much my legs and thighs would hurt. My shortness is to blame on that cause the stir ups couldn't be adjusted high enough for my feet. I plan on doing a lot more of it real soon. I wanted to know if there is anyone else that rides horse or what other things people do in their spare time that they love doing?

I have not been horse back riding in a long time! I grew up in the South and used to go all the time. Now...I am waiting for the snow to begin so I can go snowboarding...thats my big winter hobby now

I am too scared to try snowboarding. I want to try skiing but a little scared of that as well. I would like to get some winter hobbies so I can stop hibernating when it gets cold.

LOL...snowboarding is easy once you get the hang of it...it takes a little bit of practice. There is a small hill and place up in Weston when it gets cold...I think they do lessons and they have equipment to rent....

I, too, am scared by the idea of skiing...I'm not a big fan of heights, or anything that involves them. I'm only 5'2"...I think I'm meant to be close to the ground lol
I've never ridden a horse on my own...but I've taken one through a trail in Colorado a couple of times.(also did some whitewater rafting while there!)
In what 'spare' time I do have; I enjoy taking care of my pets, experiencing new cultures, going to concerts(though, not as often as I'd like), watching movies(horror are my favorite), doing a little drinking, and playing Texas HoldEm...

The last time I went riding the horse got the reins over his nose and off he went at a gallup. Across a rock strewn field with my trying to clear the rein with one hand and holding on with the other. I like the concept but the actual event never works out that way.

If your feet/heels were bouncing, you might have accidently been kicking the horse in it's flanks. They don't like that, lol, and will a lot of times either take off running or buck you off.

I have not ridden a horse for few years. It is a lot of fun. If you are not use to riding a horse you can be sore in a number of places. It is a lot of fun especially when you get use to the horse and know how to control the horse. You might find a youth saddle would be short enough for your feet to reach the styrups. An English saddle might work too. I never could get the hang of the English style of riding.

Maybe you need a good massage? lol

I did a lot better for my first time than I thought I would. I went around the barrels (not at a run or even a gallop but a walk) and then zigzagged through some of those little orange cones. It took a little time to get the hang of controlling her with the reigns, but I know I will be doing it again this weekend and probably go around the block this time although my block in the country is a four mile round trip which is one hell of a block in my opinion. At first I did try a youth saddle but my butt didn't fit right in it or at least it didn't feel right. I am going to be doing lessons every weekend that I can because next spring I would like to do barrel racing (don't care if I win but I just want to try). As much as living in the country is a small inconvenience for incall I just love it way to much and I will be getting a couple of horses, a few goats, and a few chickens by next spring.

When I get some vacation time, I plan on going to a civil war cavalry school i know of. I grew up with horses and have been bucked off with the best of them. This schools teaches you how to fall without getting hurt after being shot off your horse.
I eventually want to get a horse but havent been riding in a few years

Love riding!! I was raised around horses as my grandfather & dad used to breed horses. We still have horses and I miss taking them out for morning rides. Now I'm getting home sick.

Mya, keep up the riding. There's nothing like taking a horse out for a nice ride in the country and enjoying the peace and quiet.

Tried a real horse once. Just couldn't quite get the hang of it. I'll stick with my iron horse now.
