TEXT MESSAGING...REALLY?

So I have a humorous story to tell which occured today... I swear I can't make this stuff up...

I received a call today on my business line from a number unfamiliar to me. Because I had other people in the car at the time, I could not answer the telephone, however, because I have google voice I was able to hear the name of the caller and send them to voicemail whilst listening to the voicemail as it was being left. The caller opted not to leave a voicemail message.

Within minutes, my passengers had reached their destination and hopped out of the car long enough for me to return the call. Unknowingly, off by one digit, I left the following message, "Hello, this is Aidan MacKenna. I am returning a call I received from this telephone number. Please call me back at your next convenience."

About 30 minutes later I received the following string of texts transpired:

Mr. X: Just got a voice mail from this number. I don't remember calling you..?

Me: Oh, I'm sorry, I must have dialed the wrong number.

Mr. X: It's cool, you sounded cute anyway. lol

Me: LOL That's funny. Thanks for the compliment... I'm old... lol

Mr. X: pff How old is old, I'm 31

Me: 35 lol

Mr. X: See, that's nothing

Me: It's fun chatting with you, awkward as the phone call may have been

Mr. X: Yeah, I was like I have no clue who that was and was feeling funny so I thought, why not send a text

This goes on for an hour as we chat about the weather until...

Me: Are you at work?

Mr. X: Yep, you?

Me: Not today, What do you do?

Mr. X: Fix *********** for **** you?

Me: ha ha ha um I listen to men and take care of their problems... I was returning a call and dialed the wrong number... I'm so embarrassed

Mr. X: that's hilarious

Me: Well, that's one word for it

Mr. X: What's the other word?

Me: Oh, there are a lot of words... Paramour, demimonde, courtesan... the list goes on

Mr. X: What do you like to call it?

Me: Work!!! (lol)



All that to say I don't mind texting back and forth with my clients and it's actually easier to text or email as I am rarely at a place where I can openly speak. Contrarywise, I don't accept text requests from people I have not already screened. In the above case, we were using my business line so had he looked up the number he would have found me and my occupation in all of our glory which is why I didn't see any point in hiding it.

I actually prefer text messages. I'm a mom with two sons under 10. I hate trying to leave the room to answer phone calls. Everyone has their own reasons why they do what they do. I do what works best for me. I'm a homemaker first and a hobbiest second, lol. I have the perfect life!!!

I'm lazy about getting on the computer (even though I do everything by phone, anyway) so I don't mind text messages at all. I don't post my number, so if someone texts me... I already know who they are so it's all good.
