and now for something completely different...
Some of you may not know this but I am a movie buff. I like to see things in movies from years ago. Not that it is real but the sensitivities of the era are shown. Case in point; this weekend I watched a movie call the "The Yellow Rolls-Royce". It was a trio of stories centered around a 1920s Rolls-Royce touring car. The last one was the most interesting. The movie was shot in 1964 and the story was set in 1941 on the border of Italy and Yugoslavia. Ingrid Bergman was an American widow on holiday with her personal assistant and Pekinese. In 1964 the writers gave this woman the qualities that Americans were known for in those days. She was self obsessed and was oblivious to the rest of the world. Not in a negative way but she just had no experience with hunger or fascism. If you know you're history Germany invaded Yugoslavia while she was visiting. She plaintively said that Mr. Hitler had promised her that he had no intention of attacking anyone else. She was naive as well. Bombs went off outside her hotel and she was shocked by what happened. She stood up straight, shook herself off, and asked if anyone had any plans to help the wounded. Since no one had any such plans she took charge and set up a hospital in the street outside. She got everyone organized and moving in the right direction. She also recognized that the Germans were the bad guys without any media person telling her the obvious. She helped a militia commander (Omar Sharif) rejoin his men with her car. She was the only who could drive. She was fearless, positive, and driven to help people. She was the way that we saw ourselves in 1964. Naive, pleased with ourselves, and little bit short-sighted but when push came to shove we are in there trying to do what is right and needed.
Commentary???

Yellow Rolls Royce
I suspect you are going to suggest that the character is just like Sarah Palin.
Frankly I like the Shirley Mclaine role better.

Funny, I never thought of Sarah Palin once until you said it. I guess because I don't see Palin as that innocent of the world, she has a large family, and is wonderfully well-grounded unlike the Bergman character.

Sarah
I have never thought of Sarah as an innocent either. I oft think of her as incredibly ignorant by choice.

Now you have to get nasty. This was a nice thread at one time but then unreputable people moved in next door. Next thing you know they will be running girls next door...
As for your charge; prove it. Try something she actually said and would be considered dumber than the general population (which is hard to do).

Actually, NPR recently had a story on verbal gaffes by politicians and pointed out that "refudiate" has been used by multiple politicians over the years, including Harry Truman. So as usual, both sides are wrong. Palin didn't invent the word deliberately, and she's far from the first to use that particular malapropism.

Who sounds more ignorant, someone who says "refudiate" or someone who refers to "all 57 states?" When you give speeches for a living, there will sometimes be mistakes. Even when you use a teleprompter. We're so quick to judge how someone says something, rather than listening to what they actually say.
Of course President Obama knows there are only 50 states.
Of course Dan Quayle knew how to spell potato. (The truth is, the card the teacher gave him spelled potato "potatoe," and he didn't want to embarrass the teacher.)
We get distracted by the most ridiculous things. But it serves our purpose if we can demonize someone we don't like. That's why we are in the sad shape we are in, we put too much emphasis on presentation and not enough on content.

Catnipper I ask for proof and you acted the wounded party. In psychological terms that is called reflection. You project your feelings onto someone else. You may even actually believe what you say. Sad...
As for the topic of the post; Cat, what did the red head called Maclaine tell the hunk in the garden?

Yellow Rolls Royce
She was afraid for his life if they consumated their desires as she being a moll of the George C Scott character she thought he would be killed. He fucked her in the end tho. Love always wins out.
Galt it is impossible for you to wound me in any way that I can think off, You remind me of a pesky Gnat and nothing more.

I think a couple of people need to quit making posts personal and stick to the topic at hand. If you can't make comments about the topic, don't post. Very simple really!
I don't care who started it, stop it, NOW!
No COG, THIS time it wasn't your fault!! LOL!!

I was wondering if you saw the movie or if you read the wikipedia recount. In this movie McClaine was a blonde and she was warning the hunk in a grotto. What you wrote is almost exactly what was in the wiki except they called her a "girlfriend" instead of a moll. Not sure what to think. Where was Art during all this?
