"We've blunted the Taliban's momentum in Afghanistan, and in 2014, our longest war will be over,"

When Obama took office, the Taliban knew that it was only a matter of time before we were going to pull out of there. In that part of the world, people are going to align with those that are going to be in power. Consequently, when Obama made it clear that we were going to pull out, our supposed "allies" started to turn against NATO/coalition service members.

The military term for that is "Green on Blue Killings."

They're turning against the coalition, to prove, to what they're seeing as a future Taliban leadership of the country, that they were with the Taliban all along. The Afghan people are starting to refuse to cooperate with the Afghan military.

Our enemies are smelling a weak leader in the White House, and their actions are telling... Green on Blue killings, Afghan refusal to cooperate, Chinese issuing us warnings with regards to the South China Sea, The Iranians thumbing their noses at us... the list goes on...

Zero times cannot be a true answer, Ekim the Inbred. You are obviously too brain damaged for that to be a true answer. Please tell us, Ekim the Inbred, how many times have you laid your tricycle down and bumped your head on the pavement when you weren't wearing a helmet?

But, he has moved Iraq to an end, and he's moved the troops to Afghanistan. Granted, I'm not a military buff, but I believe I read that it was 50,000 more troops were moved into Afghanistan, and the previously ignored war effort was intensified. THAT will lead to more deaths.
Obama deserves no credit for getting us out of Iraq. The Bush Administration, and the Iraqi government, hammered out a phasing out treaty to where we'd turn over full security responsibility to them, then pull out of Iraq. The conditions that the US agreed to depended on the conditions on the ground at the time we were to pull out.

Based on how they saw things going, they timed the pull out to when they anticipated when the Iraqis were to completely take over the security... to include going after the terrorists, with the US no longer having combat units in Iraq.

By the time my unit deployed there, the Iraqis were well ahead of schedule. They were ready to take over long before we, being among the last of the combat units, eventually pulled out of Iraq.

Obama presided over an international treaty that the US had with the Iraqis. That called for all combat units to be out of Iraq no later than 31 Aug 10, and for the rest of the US military to be out no later than 31 Dec 11.

We won the Iraq War with a straight cut victory, and we did it despite misguided opposition back home. The Republicans were never about staying in Iraq forever. They believed that pulling out of Iraq would only happen when our conditions were met. That happened well before the above deadlines.

That wasn't the case with Afghanistan pull out, which wasn't dictated by conditions on the ground.

Afghanistan wasn't a "previously ignored" war front. When we invaded Iraq, we brought most of the "Holy Warriors" out of an area that negated most our war machine, and into an area where we could bring all that to bear. The bulk of the war effort took place in Iraq, with both the coalition and the terrorists.

With the majority of the "mujahadeen" going to Iraq, we were able to bring up an Afghan Army and police. One major reason to why the fight has shifted to Afghanistan is that the enemy realized that they couldn't take us on in Iraq.

Contrary to popular belief, the people that were supposedly "putting us through the meat grinder" in Iraq actually RAN away from us, and our Iraqi allies, when they heard that we were approaching their area.

They shifted their attention to Afghanistan, where they're now facing both an Afghan army and the western forces.

Exactly. Add to that... show them that we're willing to continue to fight, no matter what they throw at us. Guaranteed, if Obama et al get thrown out of office, and we get a group of people in that are committed to win this thing, no matter how long it takes, we'll succeed there.

The people over there respect strength, they don't care who's demonstrating that strength. It's best that we're the ones that demonstrate that strength... not just strength, but persistence.
