As far as justifying what you felt well, doesn't it just feel good when you finally do something that is scary and just out of the norm for you? When I've tried different things, traveling alone ... going to a class that is a bit overwhelming ... finally getting the nerve to do "X,Y and/or Z" with a particular friend ... there is always a sense of accomplishment.
Sounds very normal to me!

1. i'd agree w/ your 1st statement - it is safer, less costly, more convenient and has less pressure.
and if that is your criteria, then i think you have justified it to yourself.

only you can decide whether any justification is appropriate or worth it.
one justification is, as elisabeth said, that you planned and completed a task you wanted to do.
and i would say that is not much different from the pride in getting up the guts to be w/ a real live woman w/out directly paying for her time [you know the old adage - men pay for pussy, either by time or by agreement. in my opinion, it's cos many of them have the goods that many men want!]
of course, pumping your fist and saying "hot fucking stuff!" afterwards wouldnt necessarily be a justification, more a comment.

in addition to having the opportunity and financial resources required to visit such a woman [not every man can do so]...
there are a gazillion reasons why men pay for intimate, sensual, sexual, erotic, kinky, you name it times and activities with women, whether they call them prostitutes, escorts, whores, companions, consultants, etc.

to be fellated
to be tied up and teased until they come
to tie up and tease the woman until she comes
to perform russian
to be pleasured by two or more women
to perform anal sex or have anal sex performed on them...

just figure out why you want to be w/ an escort and figure out if that's reasonable, appropriate, and affordable for you. if you're ok with that, then go have fun!!! if not, re-examine all of this and your needs/wants/desires.
in any case, as best as you can, just be good to/for others and do little or no harm.
