The day Apollo 11 landed on the moon was literally, as I remember it being referred to in articles, "The day the earth stood still". Pretty much anyone with access to a television was watching and everything else became totally irrelevant. It is people with the courage and integrity of Neil and his colleagues that we as a country truly need to step forward and lead. ESPECIALLY IN GOVERNMENT!
Peace be with you Neil.

Oh my God. Rest in Peace! That is very sad, indeed. My childhood heroes are passing. What a great, humble and courageous man. Thank you, Neil! May your last giant leap be your best!
"High Flight"
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God
John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

The moon landing is one of the few events to inspire music, poetry, literature. The Moody Blues used it as an inspiration for their song "Higher and Higher".
