You're right. It's hysterical when the government can grab you off the street and detain you for as long as they want without charging you or telling anyone where you are.

I can see the humor in that. You would have been the funniest guy in Stalinist Russia. No doubt there!

Ryan on NDAA:

Representative Howard McKeon, who serves as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, introduced H.R. 1540, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year (FY) 2012, on April 14, 2011. This bill authorizes the appropriations for the Department of Defense (DOD) and the national security programs of the Department of Energy. After being passed by the House on May 26, 2011, it was amended and passed in the Senate by Unanimous Consent. After resolving differences between the two versions of the bill, it was passed in the House on December 14, 2011, by a vote of 283 – 136, followed by passage in the Senate on December 15, 2011, by a vote of 86 – 13. I voted in favor of final passage.

There have been some concerns over provisions in this bill relating to the detention of Al Qaeda terrorists. Some have argued that these provisions do not provide adequate protection for Americans and would allow the President to detain American citizens within the United States for an indefinite amount of time if he deems them a “terrorist.” This is not the case. This bill affirms the military’s ability to lawfully detain individuals who are engaged in armed conflict with the United States and establishes new requirements for military custody in cases where foreign terrorists are caught in a plot to attack the United States.

The United States has detained members of Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated group under both the Bush and Obama Administrations, and the courts have affirmed the ability to do so under the U.S. Constitution. This authority, however, was never explicitly stated in law, and has instead been inferred from the Authorization to Use Military Force. The NDAA simply states this authority in statute under the same terms as recognized by the courts. I believe Congress must support policies that protect Americans from terrorist organizations while still preserving our individual rights and liberties under the Constitution. This legislation accomplishes both.

Congress must never forget its promises to our troops, our veterans at home, and the families of all who serve. Our troops overseas must be provided with the tools they need to successfully complete their mission. Further, we must also work to ensure our veterans and the families of all service members receive the care, and services they need in a timely, convenient, and efficient manner.

Are you asserting that in-country Americans have been arrested and are being detained under NDAA ?

You say it like it is fact...........what proof do you offer that NDAA leglizes these kinds of arrests/detentions ?

I see that COG and myself have come to a parting of the ways. This will be hard on our dear old mother. I do have a question; who besides (Ron Paul) would you like to see as the VP or presidential nominee? Someone electable I might add.

COG you wish to overturn the GOP whereas I would infiltrate from within. The party of Lincoln is worth saving. We freed the slaves, we through the Spanish out of the western hemisphere, we gave women the right to vote, we guaranteed black people the right to vote, we created national parks, and to the dismay of some the EPA. The GOP needs a change and the change will come from within. The change will come from the good people that make up the base. We have seen the evidence by how many establishment republicans have fallen by the wayside the past two years. If we can continue to energize the Tea Party philosophy until the GOP is reshaped then we will get responsible governance, a more spendthrift government, and a constitutional legacy that would make the founders proud.

WW, the Administration refused to answer Judge Forrester when she asked if any American citizens were being detained in violation of the injunction she imposed. If none were being held, why not just say so?

If the language in the NDAA is so clear as to exclude the detention of American citizens (which it is not, it is clear in the opposite) why have attempts to pass amendments to forbid the detention of American citizens been voted down in Congress.

You are as blind to GOP lies as the Democrats are to Obama's.

Sorry, JD. We can keep replacing parts on my 1973 Ford Galaxie, and maybe it will keep going, or not. Sometimes it's better to just say the hell with it, and get a new car.

The Republicans can't be fixed. They are too beholden to special interests and moneyed powers behind the scenes. It's time for them, and the Democrats to be replaced with parties that respect the Constitution and liberty.

Just consider the noble beginnings of the Tea Party, and how they have been corrupted by the National Republican Party. The Tea Party has become a joke, and has no influence over national policy. It's become a lapel pin for RINOs seeking to fool non diligent voters into thinking they support them.

Sorry, JD. I respect your opinions, but I can't go along with this one.

I am not blind; I am asking questions rather than believe the statements that are offered up by parties from either side..................

Do you have a link to the transcript between Judge Forrester and the unnamed Administrator ?

I would like to read the exact language of the exchange between those two.
