Astute President
You must be joking or just do not understand how the highest office in the country works.
Do you really think that it is the President's job to don battle gear and go after criminals himself?
That is not his job. It would be totally idiotic to even try that!
An astute President is the captain of the ship and directs operations from the captain's quarters.
We elect a President to be the brains of the country, not the brawn.
A country will have the military to fill the role of the brawn, but the brain must direct the brawn in order for the country to work as it should.
There must be total cooperation between both units for the entire system to work efficiently.
You need many highly trained men who are in the prime of their youth who are daring enough to be able to surreptitiously enter another country who is not even cooperating with us and do it in the dead of night with a solid plan already in place and rehearsed and what is more, President Obama even insisted on a second helicopter as a back-up in case anything went wrong.
A wise contingency which was what saved the mission when the first chopper had its rotor clipped on a short fence around the compound.
. . . It was a truly brilliant plan and well executed and OBL was killed where before he could not even be located!

I do however, give the president full credit for keeping up the hunt. It woulda been real easy to say,"Aw fuck it." Good on him there.

The last president who was called wimp kicked Saddam Hussein's ass. I guess the media with all their macho experience can't tell who the real wimps are.

The US kicking Saddam Hussein's ass, or killing a sick, elderly OBL is like Mike Tyson beating up Don Knotts.
A real man would resist the urge to go to war for oil companies and defense contractors.

Don't you remember the news broadcasts COG? The fifth largest army in the world. All experienced veterans. ABC saying that the US would need a lot of body bags.

Yeah. I remember that. It was, and remains, bullshit. Even if it were true, were we really in any danger from Saddam? Fifth largest in the world, eh? By how much? Was it close? And the only reason the threat of body bags was there is because we didn't want to win the war quickly and decisively. Any President who would even risk that, given that we could destroy Iraq with almost no body count on our side, is a wimp.
And any President who continues to send our brave fighting forces into areas where we have no interest, and no desire to win, is a wimp.
Sorry, JD. I usually agree with you, but not on this topic.

Dirty Harry
The article in Newsweek is quite comprehensive and did not gloss over any pertinent background information and in fact, did mention that the same magazine had labeled Bush Senior as a "wimp" back in 1987.
I remember some harsh cartoonists even depicting Bush senior with a purse before the Gulf War started to make the point more dramatic.
. . . However, they go on to say that now, with the benefit of hindsight, compared to Mitt Romney, Bush Senior would be Dirty Harry!

So now the wimp factor is important?
Bush Jr. was certainly no wimp.
How did that work out?

Perception
Politics is perception.
The wimp factor has always been important especially in business and politics.
The leader of a country must be strong, intelligent and decisive.
If he gives even the slightest impression of being insecure, goofy or just plain awkward he is toast!
. . . Mitt Romney riding in the back of a jet ski while his wife drives is even worse than the image of Dukakis wearing that silly helmet next to a tank.

How Life Works
There has been a general decline in subscriptions to all print publications.
Print newspapers are also losing readers. That is just the nature of business.
Personally, I do not see this as a reflection on the quality of the medium so much as the continual change in the format of the medium.
That is just how life works.
Slide rules were replaced by calculators.
Typewriters were very popular for a season, but then they too began their decline to be replaced by computers.
Computers themselves gradually replaced the powerful Mainframes who dominated the business world for a long period.
. . . Change is the only constant in the world!
