A mom of a friend of mine growing up had AIDS, she was white, not a drug user, not promiscuous, etc.

And I'd like to point out that not everyone with AIDS jumps out and starts a convo with "I have AIDS" - there are probably a lot of heterosexual normals around you with the virus, that you'd never suspect in a million years. Like someone else said, it's treatable these days, not the death sentence it used to be.

The gay dude who cut your hair was the only person who told you he had AIDS. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that there are likely other people you know who have it but have not told you that they have it. And why should they, it's none of your business.
