Don't foget female genital mutiliation. Approximately 140 million women have undergone this procedure. It's very common in Egypt. The left tells us we must not criticize, because all cultures are equal. The procedure is performed on children, from birth to fifteen years.
Female genital mutilation is classified into four major types. - Clitoridectomy: partial or total removal of the clitoris (a small, sensitive and erectile part of the female genitals) and, in very rare cases, only the prepuce (the fold of skin surrounding the clitoris).
- Excision: partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora, with or without excision of the labia majora (the labia are "the lips" that surround the vagina).
- Infibulation: narrowing of the vaginal opening through the creation of a covering seal. The seal is formed by cutting and repositioning the inner, or outer, labia, with or without removal of the clitoris.
- Other: all other harmful procedures to the female genitalia for non-medical purposes, e.g. pricking, piercing, incising, scraping and cauterizing the genital area.

Hey, about female genital mutilation, you should be more tolerant and not bigoted. Other cultures have different customs. They're not subhuman barbarians. They're just different, and we don't understand. That's all. I'm sure there's very good reason for hacking off the clits of little girls.

Mohammad married a six year old (Aisha). He started having sex with her when she was nine; he was fifty three. Muslims consider Mohammad to be the most perfect man that ever lived. They consider him to be a role model. Grown men marrying little girls is legal in several Muslim countries today.
One of the first laws the Ayatollah Khomeini changed, when he took over in Iran, was to lower the legal age to marry from eighteen to nine for females. Islam is evil.

Not to go off on a tangent, but we in the West are a bit prudish when it comes to sexual relations. Why is it that we have laws forbidding sex until one is of age (i.e. 16-18)? That is kinda stupid if you ask me. Why? It is un-natural. Humans were designed to begin having sex a puberty which can be as early as 10. We've been brainwashed to think that sex with kids is somehow evil when in fact, it is a biological process not some moral process. Now, I'm not saying it is okay to be a pedophile. I'm just saying we have some really weird rational to prevent what is only natural. In history, it was common for a girl to start having kids at age 13 or 14. Heck, the Virgin Mary could have been as young as 14 when she had Jesus.

Just from a biological and medical perspective, it is a very bad idea to allow sexual relations with a female immediately at the beginning of puberty. The first menstrual cycle may be at nine or ten, as it was for Mohammad's child bride.
In some cases, the female has her first period before her pelvis is sufficiently large to allow for the baby to be born. This is particularly a problem in third world countries that can't perform c-sections. What happens is, a girl gets pregnant at nine or ten, goes into labor, and can't give birth because the baby can't get out of the birth canal; the pelvis is too small. She and the baby die in the process; it takes several days.

I agree with your conclusion that Islam needs a reformation; I'm just not sure it's possible.

reformation of Islam is impossible. its incompatible with western ideals.
the biggest issue is how the koran is interpreted and its very strict.
Mullahs have a very dim view of an alternate interpertation and would not hestitate to call someone a heretic or apostate.
there is a moderate form of Islam that is practiced by a small group of muslims (Sufi?). Sunni & Shiite consider them heretics/apostates and they are also threatened like other non-muslims.

no reason to do that. Superstition and false belief is behind all that.
it supposedly keeps the female pure.....

The Koran is interpreted according to the principal of abrogation. That means that if there is a contradiction in the Koran, which ever part was written most recently, abrogrates (overides, renders moot) the earlier passage. There are some passages in the Koran that sound loving and peaceful. In almost every case those passages were written in the early days of Islam. The parts of the Koran that are the most hateful, anti-semitic and warlike are the ones written more recently. Those are the verses that tell Muslims to establish a worldwide caliphate and kill anyone that won't convert.
Any time you hear a defender of Islam quoting a peaceful sounding quote from the Koran, you can bet it's an abrogated passage.
