The Mark 23 is specifically designed to accommodate a silencer...a true combat/covert weapon...special license require.

I went to the gun store yesterday, with the intentions of purchasing this Kimber Pro Crimson Carry II: (Crimson Trace laser grip built in, factory, 45 ACP)
BUT... Then I saw this! WWI Presentation Grade reproduction Colt 1911, specially made in 2011, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Colt 1911.
Colt Custom Shop A engraving, Royal Blue finish and real ivory grips.
I'm in love! I'm picking it up Monday... So much for saving money. It's $2,500.
Trying to find a picture online of how beautiful it is is nearly impossible... It's actually blue.

Nice collection Ginger. When purchasing a new weapon a rule of thumb to go by is, what is the weapon going to be used for? If it's intended use is for personal safety you should go with something that is light and compact and is built from a well-known manufacturer, there's a plethora of models to choose from and always take it to the range so you know how it's going to handle "if" you ever have to use if for self-defense. Remember, it only takes one shot to win over hearts and minds or to motivate someone to get out of your air space! Carrying a full clip shouldn't be necessary for a magazine fired weapon, a revolver should do just fine unless you want the extra fire power.

My agenda shifted when I saw the Colt... It won't ever be fired. I just want it.
I figure I'll probably go back and buy the Kimber later on. There's plenty of those to go around, but everywhere I look online, this Colt is sold out.

Not to upset you, but are you actually going to carry on you a $ 2,500.00 weapon or are you going to put it in an underground vault like giteneny and get it out occasionally to look at?
For me, I shoot all of my weapons. None are in display cases. I don't buy commemoratives. If I am not shooting them, they are in a gun safe. I am not a gun collector but I have collected a lot of guns to shoot.
I don't mean to offend anyone but for me guns are made to shoot, not to just look at.
Everyone has their own opinion about their own weapons.
Edit: I just saw your post above. The Kimber is a great choice.

Colt is a well-known manufacturer and they make very reliable weapons! You can't go wrong with Colt. From what I've been hearing on the news lately (not the mainstream news BTW) a lot of people around the country have been buying weapons at record numbers and some of the well-known manufactureres are getting backed up on orders.

No, I hadn't planned on carrying it around, or shooting it. I think it's beautiful---I just really want it.
My next buy will probably be a gun safe...unless Giteneny wants to come over here with his shovel and make and underground vault for me.

Spending $2500 on a weapon to sit on the shelf is a high priced trinket!

Yeah, I guess... But I'm a good girl and I hardly ever splurge on anything.
Believe it or not, I know girls that have spent that much or more on a pair of designer shoes.

Damn! On some shoes? I believe it. Well you only live once and there is nothing wrong with spoiling yourself from time-to-time.

Just because I keep my weapons in a safe, does not mean that I don't exercise them and expend a few hundred rounds into a target once in a while...live or other...but I am having a hard time finding enough storage to house all the ammo for them! I don't display mine, I hide them various locations for quick access in many situations; urban or otherwise.

Somebody mentioned the Springfield xd-9. I would also recommend this for a carry gun. If you do catch the 1911 bug, get a full size first(not a carry gun), then maybe the compact. I doubt you will settle on a 3" 1911 for carry. They are a different animal, and the compacts do not compare with the 5" guns in accuracy.

That's too funny, $2500 on a pretty gun, and it is damn purty. I was eyeing the .50 cal rifle they have sitting at Ozark yesterday and it's a mere $5K, so yeah, I can relate!
While I wouldn't call it a pretty gun by any stretch, you might also take a look at the Glock 22. It's a .40 so plenty of stopping power, and personally, I've found the brand to be very reliable.

Hey, if you and I were to get married...does that mean I would get half of your guns in the divorce?
Kidding, kidding...or am I?

Well, given the guns we'd have between the two of us, I'm guessing that one of us would end up with ALL the guns!
