3 very good friends of mine are Marines. One's brother is a Naval Aviator. 2 saw action in Iraq. To this day I am kicking myself for not having served. That's the one thing I truly regret.
I thank all members of our beloved armed forces, whether hobbyist or provider, on this board, and around the world, for their dedication and sacrafice.

4 years USMC but decided to take my special skills to the world of big money and contract work. It's been very lucrative and allows me to hobby and live the way I like, so no complaints here.

A big salute to all of you gentlemen...and ladies who have served our country!

Default Rules of Gunfights - USMC and the other services

US Marine Corps Rules:

1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.
3. Have a plan.
4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won’t work.
5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a “4.” (That just shows good sense.)
7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (lateral & diagonal preferred.)
9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.
10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.
13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot.

Navy SEALS Rules:

1. Look very cool in sunglasses.
2. Kill every living thing within view.
3. Adjust Speedo.
4. Check hair in mirror.

US Army Rangers Rules:

1. Walk in 50 miles wearing 75 pound rucksack while starving.
2. Locate individuals requiring killing.
3. Request permission via radio from “Higher” to perform killing.
4. Curse bitterly when mission is aborted.
5. Walk out 50 miles wearing a 75 pound rucksack while starving.

US Army Rules:

1. Select a new beret to wear.
2. Sew patches on right shoulder.
3. Change the color of beret you decide to wear.

US Air Force Rules:

1. Have a hot shower and a leisurely shit
2. Adjust temperature on air-conditioner.
3. See what’s on HBO.
4. Ask “what is a gunfight?”
5. Request more funding from Congress with a “killer” PowerPoint presentation.
6. Wine & dine ‘key’ Congressmen, invite DOD & defense industry executives.
7. Receive funding, set up new command and assemble assets.
8. Declare the assets “strategic” and never deploy them operationally.
9. Hurry to make 1345 tee-time.

US Navy Rules:

1. Go to Sea.
2. Drink Coffee.
3. Deploy the Marines

Yes, the USMC is a bullet fired ashore by the US Navy.

BTW, in the interest if full disclosure I should point out that this o'squid has Gen. Mattis' March 2003 message to all hand displayed prominently in my office.

"No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy than a U.S. Marine."

And a hearty Semper Fi to all my fellow Sea Service compatriots.

USMC 28 years. three favorite related expressions.

"To those who have fought for it, life has a flavor the protected cannot know." -- Unknown

"Flying upside down is so much fun it doesn't count against your lifespan. If you could stay upside down, you'd live forever" -- Me

"Most people live their lives wondering if they have made a difference. Marines don't have that problem" -- Ronald Reagan

Gentlemen,
In the interests of OPSEC (operational security) I will understate numbers.
Army - 18 years
Joint tours in the box - 2 with Marine boss and 1 with Navy female O-6
Total tours in the sand over 2 decades ~ 4

Purple heart ~ 2

We all talk hobby phones, but spill our complete military pedigree with tour dates here??

Highest respect to our Marine brethren and after doing a couple 50 mile walks with no happy ending I agree with the Army view stated above.

Happy hobbying

GO ARMY - BEAT NAVY (not lately though) :-(

USCG...spent my time on a nudist island in scandinavia...for real

Joke...
Q: Why do you have to be 6 feet tall to be in the Coast Guard?
A: So if your boat sinks...you can still walk to shore!

Thanks for all who have served, and yes my 0-6, 30 year USMC retirement along with being a full time airline pilot flying out of dfw allows me the opportunity to hobby 3 to 4 times a week, thanks JR.

My Son is a combat wounded purple heart Marine.

There are two types of people in this world, Marines and those that wish they were.
