Are there really guys so desperate and/or dense that they'll resort to crap like this? Sadly, I conclude the answer is yes since I've seen variants of the above for about the last 30 years!

They still sell them because people think they work. People think they work because they use them and they then have the small boost of confidence to actually go pick up said woman. So they are essentially selling snake oil. But yeah, the placebo effect still works if you believe it works.
