It's here! Legislative authorization for a police state.

Please, God, give President Obama the cajones to veto this frontal assault on freedom!

And the inevitable consequence.

It's too late. We should have listened. Dammit.

Dissenting views of what this bill does are starting to surface. According to this author it specifically excludes US citizens.

Senator Rand Paul sponsored an amendment to exclude US citizens from the bill. Unlike many in Congress, he actually read the bill before voting on it. His amendment was soundly defeated.

Lord love a duck, the "mainstream" GOP labels Rand and his dad as "nuts" yet they seem to be the only two who aren't (Dad's somewhat naive foreign policy views excluded).

Well again, I haven't seen a whole lot of media coverage about this other than online news. I find it disturbing that the media hasn't jumped all over this and plastered it on every news channel. I am wondering how much of this is really about terrorism and more about controlling protesters. One has to wonder. If anyone has ever watch "V" for Vendetta that movie pretty much showed an example of how government uses "scare" tactics and such as these to push such bills through. End the end if this thing gets passed we are all in some deep shit. We effectively lose any and all rights, and the government can make up anything about you to grab you and detain you and you will never get a trial.

Have any of you bothered to send and email or put in a phone call to your representatives about this?

I will after work today. I've always used congress.org, that way you can write one email and automatically send it to all of your representatives at once.

Obama has said that he will veto the bill if it comes to his desk with this provision in it. Let's hope he keeps his resolve.

Yeah, let's trust Obama to keep his word. Like he did with Gitmo. And Iraq. And Afghanistan. And open government. And bi-partisan health care reform. And on, and on, and on. Forgive me if I don't take comfort in relying on Obama to keep a promise.

We'll see. But the proximity to the election helps make it more likely he will keep the promise.
