So, do you have to show an ID, sign anything, provide your address, or any other such thing which keeps the prepaid phone from being totally anonymous and hobby-friendly?

I couldn't really tell from the website.

Nope-I gave them a random name like jane doe and all they needed was a zip codeI think they might have made them for this reasontotally hobby-friendly!!

No, it is OK where it is. A Hobby Phone is definitely Hobby related.

That sounds like a decent basic plan **Karla**

FL - actually places like Best Buy, Academy, etc., harvest Zip Code information for marketing, advertising and tracking where people are from that buy different things. I ask that one time as I was checking out because it seemed strange they would ask. Some gas stations here in San Antonio ask for my Zip Code (in place of my PIN) at the pump.

These links refer to out of state but do ofeer some explanation:

HOBBY PHONE! Always your best bet. I have been carrying a hobby phone for well over 5 years now. Everyone needs a Hobby Phone, no matter what your situation. Net 10, Virgin Mobile, Boost, Trac Phone, even HEB has their own. Pre-paid Hobby Phones are virtually pain free. On the plus side, they are relatively cheap and can save anybody major head aches and drama.

Hooray for Hobby Phones

Had Net10, way too expensive per minute.

Got a Trac fone deal @ wally's world for $90.

That included the phone ($45) and one month at $45.

Now it's just $45 a month unlimited calls and texts.

I was spending roughly $60 on Net10 just for text and calls.

I just noticed a Net10 at the grocery store yesterday that has a camera, MP3, full QWERTY keyboard, and supports web browsing/email. It's a LB 900.

The reason I noticed it and wrote down the model is that I've been interested in a pay-as-you-go smart phone. I don't use my cell phone much so a monthly plan doesn't make sense for me.

This one had either a monthly contract, or a card of 300 minutes with 60 days usage for $30. That's $15/month! Karla's plan sounds even better! The phone itself was either $25 or $40 (I have a lot of notes on this paper LOL)
