Racism is alive and well in the U.S. The difference today is that it has gone underground.
All I know is that my most conservative friends are the most racist.

Conservtive-Racist
I have the same experience as you MR.
What is truth is that racism is just a pigment of the imagination.
Well I have been waiting with baited breath for a Trump statement about race and thankfully he has now stated that he "he has always gotten along well with the blacks."
Good to know.

I think we should force inter-racial marriage on everyone. We'd all be a nice carmel color AND then the only thing we would fight about would be religion.

Time
Mike I wish I could find it again but some years ago there was a Time Magazine cover that said America in 20 years with a Halle Berry look alike.
We would all end up with better rhythm for sure.

I guess Time was wrong, the new America is going to look like Jessica Alba which is not a bad way to look or look at.
My experience is the opposite; the most racist people I meet are liberal but theirs is not a "I hate your kind" of racism but the gentle "they really can't make it in the real world without our help." So you can hate someone because of race or not, you can also think that some people are incapable of living without your help. It is still racism.

I agree it's still racism. But the liberal form is more benign because it stems from a lack of experience with people from that race, but it has beneficial and caring intentions.
The other is a form of hate that comes from the fear of the changes that racial equality might bring.

ITT Republicans who change the subject from the racism of their own party to questioning the poll takers...to blaming the Democrats for racism. Rich!

And those with malicious intentions are in the express lane.
If I had to worry about being judged, I'd be more worried if I intended harm to others because of unjustified hate and fear, than if I inadvertently made a mistake with purity of heart.
As for those with good intentions... "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Jesus.
Interpret: "Pure in heart" refers to those who seek to serve God for nothing more than the pure joy of serving the wishes of the Creator. The focus is on the purity of the spirit rather than the efficacy of their efforts. Wm. Barclary, commenting on the Gospel of Matthew.

Regardless of how/when/where/circumstances of the poll, the pollsters didn't make up the numbers. Discounting the poll is similar to attempting to destroy witness credibility - truth is truth no matter whose mouth it comes from. I personally wouldn't feel the need to defend Mississippians, even less so, because i don't share their views.
Besides, the individuals polled don't want interracial marriages banned, they'd just prefer that people of different races didn't marry each other. lol. The mistake of the individuals polled was raw honesty and a .....dually progressive(as in truly honest, self-analysis) and conservative(as in maintaining antiquated, backwards, and self-defacing rhetoric and practices) - they're not in denial, they've admitted, and come to terms with the fact that they're racist: exclusion of a specific race/ethnicity based solely upon pre-existing bias, preference, or tradition.
I do, however, find it ironic that some of the providers who've chimed in to denounce and condemn this particular, openly racist, opinion(just a personal idea or belief), openly have provider policies that are more akin to Mississippi water fountains pre-1970: WHITES ONLY, than some people asked a question about interracial marriages. There's a big jump between opinionated ideology and actual practice.

Is this thread serious is someone really trying to put forth the belief that Racism does not exist in MS or anywhere in the south. Please tell me that no one is doing that.

There is nothing benign about "helping" someone to the point of continuing generation poverty, and that is exactly what the majority of programs designed to help the poor do - keeps them poor and assures their children will be poor as well.
