I can understand the thought especially for traveling providers. You have additional expenses and no call no shows have more than just those funds, you have missed the chance to book another appointment.
I would contend that I have experienced many no call no shows, and have lost the chance to book another meeting. My time is limited so missing a chance means I may have to wait a long time before another chance arises. So like a provider, I too bare an opportunity cost. There is no compensation for my loss there, do we need to trust each other.
I think if we each have history that another can search. P411 OK’s or significant reviews with long term memberships on sites that can help develop that trust. In those instances a deposit seems a poor choice. Sure NCNS will still happen. Then in those situations block that person or charge a fee if they wish another try. Just my thoughts.
