whats important to know about visiting NOLA is that the Mayor has gone full New Zealand on businesses. Orleans parish restaurants, bars and event venues require proof of vaccination / covid test and masks.

The CBD Central Business District is generally a safe spot intended for visiting business folk. The French Quarter is for tourists and getting gouged on small hotel rooms with no parking.
The Marigny is still a (transplant) artist district with the nearby Bywater the
North of St. Claude is not going to be a good time until you get beyond Jefferson Davis or whatever they're calling that street now.
West of I-90 is "uptown" that features Garden District, Irish Channel, Freret, Carrollton... generally more $$ and better neighborhoods.
Stay off of Claiborne whenever possible.
