Might be right about a year or two older, probably wrong about 17, but doesn't matter, nor does marksmanship. The difference is, those of that age in the military are disciplined and supervised by those of presumably greater maturity, not running amok in a throng with no legal authority other than in their own minds.

He did the wrong thing by even being there.

I did not say his mother BOUGHT the gun, but evidently she DID drive him and his gun to the scene (yeah, she didn't know he had a gun....). Whatever, what responsible parent would knowingly deliver their child to such a fracas? I suppose it'd be ok to drive your 17 y/o daughter to a gang bang hosted by a bunch of your buddies.
you made a presumption that turned out to be wrong.

own it

Sorry, but where were the rational, responsible adults charged with his care, or those on the scene that may/should have recognized a too young participant? Per a response above, I presume his mother drove him there...presumably she also brought his firearm. Some mother for a role model. Right up there with June Cleaver.

You must not have a lot of friends who served. I have a lot of positive things to say about the ones in my life, but I don't know if "mature" would be on the list.

I'm just getting a "only the government and people trained by the government should have guns" vibe from the conversation, and it's too boot-licky for my taste.

Kind of a false equivalency there in my mind. Also, lots of people take their teenagers to protests, with the mind that it's a blessing to have a kid that's politically involved rather than being a x-box zombie.

Too young to own the gun, which is stupid, but he handled it better the most people twice his age would have.

Kid just cares about this country and he cares about law and order when mayors and governors are too chickenshit scared to do anything about it.

All without a public mandate like the police or federal officers might have.

Kyle Rittenhouse deserves to be convicted of manslaughter simply because he was too stupid to not be there in the first place. Former Kenosha alderman Kevin Mathewson who called for the formation of the militia group he called the Kenosha Guard is even more complicit than Kyle Rittenhouse in my opinion. He deserves to be jailed for manslaughter just for starting this whole thing.
It doesn't matter how he got there or why he was there. If his life was threatened he has a right to defend himself. Just because you don't agree with the circumstances doesn't mean he should be convicted of a major crime.

Gaston, I understand that he was just trying to do the right thing but IMO, he was just too young to make adult decisions. If one of my sons was 17 years old, I'd want him nowhere near that complete chaos... unfortunately for his friend, he will probably do more time than him just for buying him the gun and putting it in his own name. I don't know the gun laws in that state though. I just know they love cheese there.

As far as maturity and the military, I'll agree you can't exactly equate the two. I have a childhood friend who is an ex marine and he recently sent me a picture of a chick with a butt plug inserted while she was in a dressing room at a clothing store, another pic of a chick he met at Jack in The Box fingering herself and a video of a fat Uber driver he recorded of a chick while spanking her fat ass while he was talking dirty to her and laughing. All of those women looked liked shit so I am kind of scared to open up any texts he sends me with an image or a video attached now. He thinks it is cool, but all I think is that I wouldn't be sending those pictures of those bad looking civilians to anyone if I was you because I'd hate to admit that I was fucking them.

Yep, the kid would have been killed if he didn't. Mincing over whether or not he should have been there is victim blaming.

"The situation escalated because he was there."
"She should have known better than to go to that party by herself."

"The crowd reacted that way because he had a gun"
"If she didn't dress so provocatively, this wouldn't have happened"

Oh yeah, his friend is fucked. That was a straw purchase. That's gonna be a Fed charge.

yyyyup, that sounds really familiar. I've got one that's pushing 50 and still "dating" strippers like he's a green recruit. The only reason I don't pull him into the hobby is that he's really bad with his money already, and the day he wandered into this political board is the day he'd get banned.

I don't think they teach you much financial management in some branches of the military. That ex marine friend of mine showed up with a $70K Mercedes the last time I saw him. He hasn't paid himself a salary in years from his business. I was just like ummmmm, I'm done doing your taxes. I'm not losing my CPA license on signing off on anything for you when you are pulling this shit. I want absolutely no part of that probable IRS audit with my signature and my license number on his filings.

Anyway, the kid will do some time. Hopefully they won't just throw the book at him though just to appease the public outcry. He was almost adult age but he was still just a foolish kid at the time.

That fool doesn't have any damn money for a top notch lawyer unless he received some from donations. Either way, he is still going down for being stupid. He's not walking away from shit.
You realize that he was a minor when that happened. Don't they have to point you now?

We have laws and a justice system ( for now ) to determine if he's guilty NOT THE LSM

Yeah, but due to the fact that 15 year old gang members get tried as an adult, I bet they'll try him as an adult.

People read what they want to read. I never said that 17 year olds in the military were necessarily more mature than average (probably true, but not worthy of debate. What I DID say is that military 17 y/o's are SUPERVISED by those of presumably greater maturity.

It may be true that a lot of people take their minor children to protests, but do many take their kids ARMED? A lot of people smoke crack as well....sorry, but "a lot of" doesn't make it right. Yeah, I think the kid is responsible for his actions, but I think his mother should face whatever charge fits along the lines of child endangerment for her actions.

I agree with the Dutchman, lets let the justice system sort this out. Many may disagree with the outcome, but as Dutchman pointed out, that is the purview of the justice system to decide.

This. Defending yourself and your property is now a crime. You will be "replaced." If you haven't heard this term you will. Its part of the "cancel culture" process. They want you to think firing you gun and pleading self defense will not be an effective strategy.

You know a bunch of people in prison got stimulus unemployment checks and stimulus loans? I know somebody who's running a COVID scam and the govt is handing out 5 digit payouts to people for which he takes a nice 4 digit up front fee. BTW, it's not me.

For the most part, the govt isn't paying attention during the COVID lockdown. They're working from home. Courts are still backed up.

BTW, the BLM President who bought four houses said the same thing about not drawing a salary. You think she's being investigated?
