Washington Examiner Effort to recall California attorney general underway as Newsom recall effort progresses

Another day, another California Democrat faces a recall effort.
© Provided by Washington Examiner Victims rights advocates launched an effort to get Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon recalled. Proponents of the effort have argued that the attorney general “has abandoned crime victims and their families” by having “disregarded the rule of law and weakened lawful sentencing requirements,” according to a press release.

NEWSOM PUSHES CALIFORNIANS TO THE BRINK
Their effort began over the weekend as they gathered the necessary 20 signatures to initiate the process. The group has 160 days to gather 580,000 signatures of registered voters to place the measure on the ballot.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva supports the recall plan and was at the press conference where they announced the effort.
"When we say it's OK to not only join a criminal street gang, but engage in crime in furtherance of that criminal enterprises, and they face no consequence, we have a problem," Villanueva said, per ABC7. "His name is George Gascon."
The website associated with the effort accuses Gascon of having “instituted a series of directives to the prosecutors in his command that have nothing to do with a progressive approach to prosecution and have everything to do with a radical agenda that ignores victims, discards the law and endangers the lives and livelihoods of all Angelenos.”

As the effort to recall Gascon gets underway, a similar plan, which is further along, is underway to oust California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The leaders behind the movement to recall Newsom said they have the necessary signatures to force a vote, but state and county officials have yet to verify the signers.
The Los Angeles district attorney's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
