part of the problem is with the corrupt AMA's role in price setting in the medical field. its more of a cartel in that sense.

DF - nonsense - the AMA does not set prices, or the custom that patients are not informed of prices up front.

Medicare - US government-_ is responsible for most of the price setting in the US markets - it is the standard by which insurance companies Pay.

Default the fault, dear friend, is not in our stars, its the insurance policy i tell ya

well it is true patients served or admitted know nothing of the charges

they are not supplied a price list, they wouldn't know how to interpret one except in the simplest of cases and then in the immediacy of service or complication, no disclosure would serve any purpose

service related to a known matter, barring complications and unforeseen length of service, could be disclosed but with the intermediary of an insurance policy, price disclosure of even these services would have little to no utility

elective service is about the only type for which price disclosure makes sense , and that is already done because it is direct patient pay

the third party insurance policy has mostly removed pricing considerations a patient might have ever had

insurance policies tend to have the effect of price escalation, to the insurance company from the service provider, and then to the policy holder or policy payor from the insurance company

so it is a circle, vicious or not, you decide, and all ultimately falls upon the nations economy

i havent read the previous posts so im a bit unsure where we are at in this thread but im going to talk about a different perspective possibly many havent thought of relative to the election.

there are aspects to this election talked about over and over and theres charts and articles telling each side but there are also aspects below the surface between the lines so to speak not talked about a whole lot.

There are a lot of smart people in this world and actually each of us has a certain level of intelligence that has been molded by our life experience. We record thoughts and ideas that shape us and create an algorithm that is our beliefs and what we become as an individual. Some of the smartest individuals in the world have little structured knowledge yet through their life experience they have developed a profound level of education and skills. Each of us has a certain level of knowledge and has earned the right to use it in the way we choose.

There is also the human condition good and bad where who we are becomes an instrument of what we believe and most often this is a good thing.

Other parts of our condition are passion, motivation and emotion but also envy, exploitation , selfishness and insecurity.

We are a puzzle of many pieces individual in nature yet similar in many ways .

Through life variables many are situated in positions where they become leaders and their natural inclination is to contribute the positive aspects they possess to others, moved by passion , driven by hope, they strive to make things better , to help others in areas of their life where they lack knowledge or opportunity , and that is a good thing .

At the same time knowledge and position can create a bad thing judging us as a whole and making decisions we dont agree with , ignoring our knowledge and taking away our freedoms under the guise of a greater good or based on their beliefs not ours.

Where the electorate differ is where many different levels of belief collide and passion and emotion take over . One choice is ours by voting but the a more important choice is the candidate that gives us the freedom to choose whats important to us not the candidate that tells us what we should support . The real choice is to see ourselves as who we are and what we believe not how others see us or tell us who we have become or need to be.

So those in power feel they have the knowledge to make decisions for us based on their knowledge and sense of purpose. we have the choice to accept what they believe or we dont , that is our freedom.

for thousands of years this dynamic has existed those in power deciding for us what they feel can better our world and our lives, and sometimes this has worked but mostly it didnt , Those being told what they should believe decided to find a better way and came to this country to find a freedom from those deciding for them ,and those who ignored their ability to decide for themselves .

Now to today, we have a choice in voting , but we also have a choice in deciding for ourselves if we accept decisions and viewpoints that leaders have made for and about us . Do we decide we have the choice to acknowledge or reject them having the right to decide for us as a whole. Do we accept we are a racist country or half the country hates women or the earth is doomed or do we reject that we are of that belief.

Do we believe that each of us individually can decide who and what we have become and what we believe or accept some generality that describes the entire country . One is individual freedom , the other the antithesis of individual freedom. Its up to us to choose who we are and what we believe not what a leader or group is deciding and telling us who we are.

That is the decision you must make do i accept the freedom to judge myself and measure my own knowledge and beliefs or do i accept what i am told i am and who ive become .

for 200 years
Many have died to give us the choice of freedom or the choice to put aside who we believe we are and accept what another tells us who they think we have become.

Its very clear the choice is freedom, or give up your freedom to another because you have not the knowledge to even realize the freedom you are about to lose. !

You are right that AMA doesn't set prices, but they do have alot of influence with government to set prices high artificially, how many hospitals to keep open, how many medical schools needed. there is a deliberate shortage of them.
