Default making popcorns - what pans??

what size pans or pots do you use to cook popcorn from the stove?

Depends on the amount of kernels, been a lot of years but I think 1/4 cup to a large pan if not the worst thing popcorn over flowing string it & put it on the tree 😊

don't know the size of your pan? eh... oh well.


I'm kinda of sad that we got rid of my dad's old popcorn popper. it was older than me. it's a steel saucepan; no inside coating. its dimensions were something like 5" in diameter, 4-5" high uncovered, 6-7 inches hich covered. this is likely at least a 4-5 quarts uncovered, 6-7 quarts covered.



they don't make this type from what I've seen on amazon.

A cast iron pot. That's how my mom used to make it. Best popcorn ever.

And the base/bottom was a smaller diameter than the top (funnel shaped).

Our popcorn maker was funnel shaped. The bottom of the pot was smaller & it flared up so the top was wider. Guess that would concentrate the corn & oil into a smaller area, but give it room to expand as it popped.

problem with those, you can't cook them over the newer induction stoves. at least according to instructions.

I always used a sauce pan with a lid, with some oil in the bottom warming. Drop in one kernel and wait until it pops then fill the bottom. I love stove top popcorn and it’s the only way I’ll make it. I try to avoid microwave radiation as much as possible. You don’t need a special pan to make popcorn.
