At best, his career will suffer. At worst, he will be charged for filing a false police report for setting up a fake attack.
The news media had a great day with this, some spent an hour of news time on it. But, you can't blame them for reporting - if people want to create fake stories, it is not their responsibility to decipher the fake ones - maybe that is for investigative reporting.
It took a long time for the media to stop putting cameras on streakers when they tried for the attention.
The democratic candidates jumped all over this.......too bad for them.
I had never heard of the guy before all this happened. I don't have any personal feelings one way or the other toward him.
FWIW I seriously doubt it hurts his career for more than a week or so. No such thing as bad publicity and all. He's a gay black dude. What's not for the press to love? They may crucify him for a week or so because they looked like idiots, again, but then his redemption story will be all the rage.
You're right, the false police report could be problematic. I heard, this morning, that he had another charge of lying to police in 2017. That could add some fuel. I guess it all depends on how hard the DA wants to press the guy. I think he'll probably walk with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. A plea deal is probably in the works.
He set this up supposedly because he didn't get enough attention for some kind of hate mail he received at the studio or something like that. Celebs get hate mail all the time. Dude seems like a drama queen(and no that has nothing to do with his orientation, I could really care less about that).
I think it is the NEWS media's responsibility to decipher or at least verify. I also think it is our responsibility to understand what is news and what is commentary. Back in the day this would have made a segment only on Entertainment Tonight. Now, with hundreds of hours of commentary on every week the networks are all in the business of "selling" news. It's dangerous if you ask me.
^ and that my friend is all yall live for...but I'm not in the mood to discuss Jessi at this time but if you insist while I told you I dont feel like discussing it then here's my view:
That shit sounded fake from go. Told folks it was homo bs, they thought I was a homophobe. Story was just to pumped up then he tried to dial it back. He should be fired. And be charged.
"Twentieth Century Fox said it is "considering our options" on "Empire" star Jussie Smollett after he was arrested Thursday morning on a felony charge of filing a false police report."
