so, the jewish people were mis-informed of the actual facts of the matter.

You're forgetting the sign the Romans put over his head on the cross. That the Romans were concerned with.

that was just their way of insulting/humiliating people. it was a joke by the soldiers who put it up there. it was not a ordered by Pilate to put that there. at least that part is not mentioned in the bible.
