Once you post you have a roughly one hour window of time within which you can edit your post. After the hour is up, though, you have to send any proposed edits to a mod for him/her to edit in for you.

Within the hour editing window, just click the "edit" button that will appear at the bottom of your post. Once that disappears, you've past the edit window and need mod assistance.
