Actually, Trump's comment began before that with the statement that no one knows what they would do until their tested (paraphrase) and he "thinks" he would go in .. he equivocated about it on the basis of no one really knows how they would react to the situation ...
IMO that is the honest and mature comment, because it's true.
As for the Sheriff ... who is criticizing his deputies ... how long did it take him to get to the school?
