I just donated $5,000.00 to the NRA.
I'm disheartened by the extremism that I'm seeing after this tragedy. I don't know who's behind it, but there's a highly organized anti-NRA, anti-gun, anti-2A social media and mainstream media blitz.
I'm not opposed to looking for solutions to this problem, but I'm completely opposed to knee jerk reactions, particularly when they involve destroying liberty.

Why don't the anti gun people come out against the car manufacturers and car owners when some nut job drives a car into a crowd? Same argument just different weapon ...

That's easy-- I'm a gun owner and even I can answer that one.
What purpose... aside from killing... does a gun have? Now, that could be killing food, for protection, or whatever reason you like.. but ultimately-- the only purpose of a gun is to kill or wound.
Pretty much any other usable weapon out there that is publicly available.. has a use other than simply to kill or wound. Vehicles, knives, etc....That is why those opposed to guns don't attack anything but guns.

Gun Free zones are easy targets. Those who kill in gun free zones, like schools, select targets that can't stop them. They arent regular criminals. Their crime is to kill as many as they can in a short time period. Hire veterans to protect our kids and allow a few teachers in different areas of the school to carry. Teachers have sbown the desire to protect kids even sacrificing their own lives. Old cops near retirement have shown a self preservation desire.

People forget that at Columbine, they had close to 100 home made bombs.
So had they not been able to aquire the guns they used. They still would have done a lot of damage maybe more.
The Columbine & the OKC bombing occurred after the assault weapon ban was in place. I doubt Timmy ever considered a shoot out with a rifle. He decided to turn a moving truck into a fucking bomb!
If 2A is repealed completely, those who want to kill will still find a away to kill. It will be as brutal and probably just as frequent.
When only the government, military and police have guns, it's only a matter of time until tyranny takes hold.
2A is not about personal self defense. No. I don't believe next year or in my lifetime the United States will fall that low. I don't own a gun or feel I need to stockpile ammo. We aren't immune, however.
We don't need guns today. We just need the right to them, in case we do tomorrow. Tomorrow will come, maybe in 100 years maybe in 200.
Tomorrow will come faster if we begin to relinquish our rights.

Solution.
Schools should be like fort knox.
All doors are exit only and alarm triggered except main entrance.
The front door should have metal detectors and also EVERYONE has to have badge access. Visitors are screened and escorted. That kid had no reason to be at that school. He would not have gained access.
2 police at entrance with appropriate training.
Depending on campus layout and size ,more officers may be needed.
Options to consider -Armed Trained Teachers or Administrators.
I'm at not convinced a gun free zone is or is not part of the solution either.

My prayers and condolences to the families of the innocent young souls who got their lives taken away so soon. Sad, very sad

This is not just in schools, and it's not just in the USA.
These crazy people have used poison in envelopes, Bombs, Vehicles, Planes, and Guns. Arming teachers is just nuts. If the next shooting is in a church, do we arm the priests next? 911 caught everyone off guard because a plane was never used to terrorize a country. Even after the 1st tower was hit, no one expected it to fall or for another plane to hit the other tower. Schools are supposed to be quiet/safe zones and when a shooting occurs there, it is surprising. IT'S THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE that catches everyone off guard and does the MOST damage. Think of all the locations these attacks occurred. Concerts, trains, any place a large crowd gathers.

I agree, arming Teachers is a stupid idea. 4 Police/Security guys with weapons failed to confront the shooter, what makes you think a Teacher will grab a gun and chase down a schoolyard Maniac? I would bet 95% of any Teacher shootings would be toward innocent people, unrelated to attempted mass shootings.
fact is, this guy Cruz was crying for help, many knew he was Nuts, and nobody did anything (save for the family that took him in, briefly). Cruz was a ticking time-bomb that for some reason astonished a lot of people when his "bomb" actually went off.
and this "see something, say something" nonsense? some people did say something (hello FBI?).. but it takes listeners on the other end to make saying something amount to anything.

Chung, in almost every one of the school shootings I've read about, there were teachers who placed themselves--unarmed--in harms way to try to protect their students. I have no doubt that if there were just a few armed teachers in schools, that those armed individuals would continue to put themselves between the sicko and the students.
But the outcome could be very different if the teacher has the ability to shoot back.
Granted, it would be unwise to require all teachers to be armed, as most don't have the temperament, maturity, or training to be effectively armed. But there's bound to be a few veterans and others who do possess those qualities.

To be armed in a Texas school you must complete an 80 hour school marshal training course.
I believe the course is much more stringent than the laughable LTC requirements. A blind man could pass the Texas LTC shooting requirements.
Is 80 hours enough either? I'm not to say. Boot is what, 13 weeks? Then they are shipped off to fight.
Just because a group of law enforcement failed their duty, doesn't mean all would have.
I would like to explore those 39 instances. Are current laws such that, through due process, the police could do nothing in all of those? Was there something that could be done and was not?
