WHY INSTALL A BAN on a country, if you are then going to turn around and let those athletes compete anyway AND DO so still as their own country but under the "generic olympic flag'>>??

Russia was banned due to state-sponsored doping program. Individual athletes from Russia were allowed to compete if they were found to be clean by a panel with representatives from the IOC, the World Anti-doping Agency, and the Doping Free Sport unit of the Global Association of International Sports Federations. So it was hardly like any Russian athlete was allowed to compete.

Put yourself in the shoes of the athlete. You have trained for 4 years and are ranked #1 in the world in your event and want to win that Olympic gold medal which is the highest honor in your sport. You train clean. Shouldn't you be allowed to compete? This is hardly the first time in the history of the Olympic Games that athletes have been able to compete even though their home country has been banned.

yeah, but not under what IOC put Russia thru in with this "OA" bullshit.

I'm guessing that it sounds like IOC may have been under pressure by other quarters to ban all players from Russia. kind of an unfair putsch to get more medal count for their athletes.

But if the individual athletes are still allowed to compete, what was the point in banning the country from sending any??

As I stated, not ALL individual athletes from Russia were allowed to compete. Just those that were cleared of any wrong-doing by a rather diverse panel. The athletes that went did NOT represent Russia. Punishing all athletes because of the actions of others is not fair.

The cost of holding the Olympic Games in SK went from an estimated $7 billion to $13 billion. Nothing compared to 4 years ago in Sochi, Russia when the estimate was $10 billion and the cost turned out to be over $50 billion.

And, just as bad, once the games are over the Olympic venues usually fall into disrepair very quickly. Rio, Athens, and Sochi being examples.

You're a dumb shit. You got any proof of "rigging?" The hardball term they are using now is "meddling." And that Russian firm spent more AFTER the election than before. And they spent some on both sides. Let me mention that you're a dumb shit again in case your poor reading comprehension missed it.

It's about the money. Plain and simple.

Does that include bribes? The numbers are inflated. AT&T (Cowboy) stadium only cost 1.1 billion. The popularity of the Winter Olympics may be falling.

That is why i never understand why so many countries VIE for the job of hosting it.. CAUSE 99% of the time, whom ever does it, gets a big dump on financially afterwards..
