Hey Everyone! I’ve decided to be more social in the hobby scene. It gets incredibly lonely in this world when you have no likeminded people, especially women, around to ponder, work and advise. I’m not too proud to say I dont know everything. I have no problem asking and answering questions. I understand that just because I’m open , curious and humble doesn’t mean that anyone owes me conversation or association. We kind of do it to ourselves because of our “reputation “. The blanket definition on the cerybthing we do and lives we live but god damn! How are we supposed to build something real if we can’t even approach one another? I don’t know. I know I’m being unrealistic. Wishful thinking.

Someone else said this to me yesterday when I said that I only trust other sex workers. I was baffled...I've found my best friends in this scene. I've pretty much stopped being friends with civs because they don't give a shit about sex workers and will talk about being feminists all day long until it comes down to supporting whores. If it wasn't for other workers, I wouldn't have made it through the last year alive...honestly! I was so down and out and THE ONLY people who supported me were other sex workers. My "best friend" that was a civ was the one who kicked me when I was down and made my life even WORSE. She was the last straw for me.

At first most of my support system was mostly online, I'm in a couple of groups on facebook and even run one myself. Then I joined twitter and started getting to know other girls in my city and now my friendship circle has expanded! Having people to go out for drinks with and talk shit about clients and gossip is the best! I feel like I can TRULY be myself and I never ever felt that way around my civ friends.

I very often feel exactly like this too. It's one of those things that are only judged by others and not understood unless they are in the sex work industry.

Wow.. I really needed to read this! I'm new in the scene and I've been feeling very lonely because I can tell my civ "friends" don't really want to associate or hang out with me anymore since becoming a sex worker. But I love what I do and I would love to have friends in my life who also do what I do because it does make a huge difference to me.

perfectly worded! Especially about my feminist friends...they're all for empowerment with the exclusion of sex workers! I have a Tight circle of provider friends and we do lunches and occasional nights out,its the most refreshing open and real interactions. One of my closest friends I met in the provider world!

I tried that in CO and got burned BADLY.. so I stay solitary...True friends don't try to out you, spread rumors or try to use you for doubles to boost their business💋 IMHO

Tough it is most times to judge our hobby shipmates male and female regarding trust.

As for camaraderie, fellowship and socializing, in 2017,

-- 11 social events in Austin
-- two dozen plus in San Antonio

Not always easy to organize or host, but the above have been on-going since 2002-2003.

So I'm contrasting Bella's comment here with Julie's comnent at post 2.
Both are valid.

I've broken up cat fights between strippers back stage, and have also seen a handful of gals become best friends.

IMO, it comes down to trust at an individual level.

There are some good people here, but more wolves in sheep's clothing. I too have learned a lesson or two. Be very careful who you share any RW info with if you have a lot to loose. I have and keep a very small hobby circle. Better safe than sorry in the long run.

I have been super lucky. My best friend is also an escort, I have a few other ladies that I interact with regularly, and for the most part we have an amazing group of women in the MI market. They are smart, funny, loyal, successful, and just all around good people.

I have had "friends" in this industry that were corrupt, friends that let money and jealousy get in the way of our friendship. I refuse to become a stereotype and disconnect myself from meeting good people, because a few bad apples got in the way. There are bad apples everywhere in life, and at the end of the day I would rather take an educated risk, and gain a new friend then live a life alone.
