It has been a dream to invent an exercise machine that you can use for 30 minutes at night, and generate enough power to run your residence for a day. Hasn't happened.

Maybe you could get 4 big dogs, and they can get their exercise on treadmills. Put those doggies to work !

Vita that will be something sir...it has to be the most efficient of rechargable batteries that will generate enough power. Long journey ahead for renewals, not sure if they will pick up market share by 2050.

But there are projections and confidence though but technologically challenging...

Whatever happened to the promise of cold fusion? Wherever it's at is, I believe, the ultimate destination of the promise of significant amounts of wind or solar energy at competetive prices.

Freaking Teslas are coal powered ultimately, and inefficiently so.

Unless I'm completely bewildered, which is always a possibility, Tesla draws its motive power from the electricity grid. The average American grid source breakdown is 5.9% wind, 0.6% solar, and the rest fossil fuels or nuclear.

Tesla Company is, in my opinion, mainly in the business of harvesting government subsidies. I believe Musk ultimately plans for it to be a battery company.

I see your point...it's drawing from the grid to deliver the product in the name of renewals. Point well taken....yes, it's quite a possibility that ultimately they will a super battery company which will deliver the electric cars, but the car body will still use the electric from the grid and may be alternate energy until or unless some miracle happens....

the grid is still the most efficient converter of fossil fuels. a modern combined cycle plant can operate near 50 percent efficiency. i remember reading some mid 40s numbers a decade ago

car engines are only about 33 when fully loaded at BEP and WOT.....worse under lighter loads. a third goes out the tailpipe....the last third out the radiator.

so charging from the grid is a clever idea.....just not practical or convenient.

but it would be fun to switch to a toy slot car idea....damn wouldn't that be a trip. all that power with no battery weight.

You raise a good point,,I was looking at a parking lot in downtown, they had 30 slots for electric cars and all of them were full and being charged, I remembered my days when I used to put the batteries to recharge every morning before going to school so that after school , I will have 45 minutes to fly my remote controlled plane. Well with back batteries of course.
