I think it's more about self-satisfaction, at least from my experience. I went from C to DDD and the confidence boost hit right from the start. For us women, perhaps it's not too much about how big the boobs are but how much better dresses and other clothes look with a little more padding on the chest area, hehe.

With that being said, I have to agree with you about B cups. They can look quite exquisite, especially if they're perky and on the right body.
