If you know the name of the Indian version of the drug that you need, then an official prescription is not required.
Simply tell them that you're under the supervision of a US doctor and use the same drugs already back at home. Medicines are often cheaper in India, so they will probably assume that's why you're buying them locally.
If you are in a touristy part of town, the pharmacy workers will definitely speak English.
I'm not sure what the rules are on transporting pharmaceuticals out of the country or back into the U.S. You may want to consult with the official customs guidelines about that one.
