How many points does it take to get banned?

Mods have plenty of discretion when it comes to bans and points.

Here is a very simple answer to your query.
An accumulated points ban is 90 days.
There is no time off for good behavior or because the points that assisted you in getting a 90 day ban have expired.
How bans and points are issued to anyone other than yourself is of no concern to you and is generally a private matter unless the person getting points or a ban chooses to discuss it.
Mods on the other hand are welcome to discuss their actions at their own peril as it opens their actions to public discussion. I could reference a threAD in the Dallass forum where NYr made that mistake but that would be something like work and I eschew work as often as possible.

The expiration of points has absolutely zero to do with when a ban is over but it does help to cut down on the number of points you will need to ban out going forward.

Think of it this way. When you do a crime and go to jail/prison and your sentence is handed down, you do not get released from prison because the statute of limitations expires while you are serving your sentence.

of course not,....but you do get credit for time served before conviction. that'd be a better example.

So, with your idea. if a 2 point violation expired you would be able to come back.

Of course, those who accumulate enough for a ban tend to get points again quickly.

So, they would get 90 again.

And it would be in and out of ban.
