I must raise my hand. I think the song would have been better if he had allowed Ali to write the lyrics to it.

"Mama named him Clay, I'm going to call him Clay"
- Eddie Murphy, Coming to America

"The time may have come to say goodbye to Muhammad Ali, because very honestly, I don't think he can beat George Foreman."
~ Howard Cosell circa October 28, 1974 on the eve of The Rumble in the Jungle

Howard was wrong as many other pundits were prior to this historic bout. Ali, who no longer had that spry hop in his legs, introduced us to a new strategy (rope-a-dope). He outwitted the younger, bigger, stronger George Foreman to reclaim the heavyweight championship; adding to his illustrious career.

42 years later we can now officially say "goodbye" to this legendary athlete. He was truly an American Original.....a One of a Kind we'll never see the likes of again.

I'm glad I was old enough to see his later fights…but mostly to experience his relationship with Howard Cosell play out over the air. That was some of the best TV that's ever been on.

RIP Ali.

RIP Ali.
I remember watching the Thrilla in Manila as a little kid, as well as the Leon Spinks a few years later. Then watching him get beat down by Larry Holmes really broke my heart. Ali would have killed Holmes if he was in his prime.

Loved Howard Cosell no matter what he did. Boxing, MNF, Battle of the Network Stars, didn't matter. He was on of the greatest sportscasters ever.
