Believe me buddy, as well as planting my flag in a few golden holes I have in my youthful travels had that door open to disclose a face straight out of Mask, and seen her skirt lifted to reveal an ass straight out of Auschwitz. Back then, though (pre-Internet days), the dry-hole experience was not quite so embittered by the element of conscious deception. I guess we might be dealing here with the delicate distinction between losing to long odds, and losing to a cheater.
