Default Food for thought re: the rudeness and flames

"Moving parts in rubbing contact require lubrication to avoid excessive wear. Honorifics and formal politeness provide lubrication where people rub together. Often the very young, the untraveled, the naive, the unsophisticated deplore these formalities as "empty," "meaningless," or "dishonest," and scorn to use them. No matter how "pure" their motives, they thereby throw sand into machinery that does not work too well at best."

Great quote and insightful perspective on the current situation, except that the rabble rousers are all supposed to be mature...

If we weren't looking for Professional Providers, we wouldn't be on this site.

Note that "unsophisticated" is also mentioned. Had ol' Bob been a member of Eccie(and anyone who's read his books knows her would be!) he would probably have added a few other descriptives, and maybe a name or two...

do not confuse mature with old. There are plenty of old immature people.

Nor should you confuse old or mature with polite or open-minded.

I suspect some of the angry misogynist crew on here have seen quite a few birthdays--and have had many years practice being angry old men with a well developed caveman complex.

Actually, this board seems almost back to normal this week. A lot more CO in the co-ed from the sausage fest that it had been. Thanks brave ladies.

Methinks they see themselves in the third age, when really they appear to be entering the last one:

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
Then, the whining school-boy with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then, a soldier,
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden, and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then, the justice,
In fair round belly, with a good capon lined,
With eyes severe, and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws, and modern instances,
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.
-- As You Like it, Act II, Scene VII -- William Shakespeare
