Antibacterial Soap

Please pardon me for making an off-topic interjection into a serious discussion, but one word caught my attention. Antibacterial soap.
Again, I very sincerely apologize, but this is an issue very closely associated with what I do.
Antibacterial soap, especially the brands on the market, is absolutely the most dangerous thing being sold today. It does nothing, repeat nothing, useful and enormous harm.
Bacteria that are dangerous can best be reduced in numbers by detergent, not soap. Not all are killed, but significant numbers are destroyed. Detergent is most effective in dissolving the membranes surrounding them, and in some cases the complex chemical layers that offer further protection, by enclosing them in sheaths or cases, that are highly resistant to many types of interventions, including antibiotics with many modes of operation. Think little buggers in raincoats.
OK, what IS dangerous, are viruses, and the most dangerous are infective at the lowest titre, i.e. ONE SINGLE infective virion. So, we shall not name that one.
Far better than lysol is something containing nonoxynol, which is a chemical loosely called an alcohol and sometimes used as a spermicide. This is strictly about the infective agents that carry STDS. Some are exceedingly infectious at certain stages, as is well-documented in popular literature available on the internet.
But antibacterial soap does nothing and is one of the agents causing extreme harm. Bacteria live in dense colonies anywhere they exist, much like different types of people live in cities, with well-defined addresses and each keep to their own little turfs. When there is any disturbance or crowding, the signal to each other and then switch on anti-neighbor chemicals, switching on their own virulence and hyper-virulence machineries to high gear. This is when a vast range of toxins and war preparations begin to come into effect, and those affect us very powerfully.
[It is one of the reasons why chickens and pigs raised in battery cages are dosed with a a range of antibiotics to quell their bacteria in the bile ducts and various parts of the intestines from this hypervirulence reaction which is what they are raising their heads for. There would be no meat from this sort of horrible system otherwise.]
I hope I have not made anyone upset, but the advertisement industry, just like the food industry, sells product without regard for the greater good of humans. What I have written can be checked with any responsible molecular biologist at any university.
Viruses are the problem, and subviral particles are infinitely worse. Some viruses are difficult to eliminate even after 24 hours in pressure cooker conditions.
Our finger tips and other body parts have lots of chemicals that do a good job of killing very ugly viruses DEAD. Whoever expressed her disgust at the human fingertip is mistaken. We have RNAses, RNA digesting enzymes, secreted by our own body, that destroy viruses which sophisticated sterilizing equipment cannot, even when run for 24 hours. I have done this work personally!! So, we have evolved quite a defense against nasty critters. Dirty fingers are not quite as dirty as we think they are!!
The female reproductive tract is the largest area/tissue of sensitive mucous membrane in contact with the external world. it is also the most vital region responsible for the survival of the human race. So, that reproductive tract has evolved significant defenses of its own, and the mucous membrane should not be violated with repeated chemical interventions or mechanical injuries.
Dawn is a mild and good detergent. But anionic detergents that can be purchased in consultation with your dermatologist should be even better. Wash your hands with a mild detergent, like Palmolive. NOT SOAP, and NEVER EVER ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP, please.

This is an interesting and fact filled post from GP , but hyperbole takes away from some of his posts , including this one. The most dangerous product sold today? Hardly. I do agree that it is not a good thing, but hardly the most dangerous. Otherwise , keep spewing that info GP. Inform the masses. Good stuff.

GP - I believe Antibacterial Soap is two words.
For someone who leads us to believe that you are Mr Green - you sure give off a lot toxic air !

I've had many surgeries. Before each of them I have been given a bottle of antibacterial soap and told to shower with it the morning before surgery.
In the future should I tell whomever gives me the bottle that it's too dangerous to use it?

Woody my brother I'm so sorry to hear about all of your surgeries, but I would be inclined to listen to a surgeon's advice. Now as you know I'm not a Dr., but if they're going inside to slice, dice and repair, then I'm guessing that at that moment, the exterior soap is the least of your worries. But if you have a specific question please PM me and I'll ask a Dr who I'm very close with and get back to you with his answer/s. After all, I only spent $300m on his schooling, plus he kinda like me, so I think that my son the Dr., will return my call.

Hey brother! I have said many times that I'm just not an lol kind of guy. While I appreciate your concern, my response was intended to be just a lighthearted joke. Congratulations on being the proud dad of a doctor!
