Default Question for Y'all

So, I've stayed on the strip where my room rates were cheaper on weekdays than on weekends. Last time out I stayed slightly off strip where the rates were cheaper on the weekends as opposed weekdays.

Not saying I'm cheap ( LOL ) but what is the general rule of most hotels in Vegas as far as price goes ? My next trip looks to be only one night this time as I head to the great national parks in California. I'm too lazy to check websites of every hotel in Vegas,

The General rule of thumb goes like this...
Avoid Holidays, avoid dates when there are Big Boxing / UFC fights or when there are large Conventions in town. For example, the Consumer Electronics Show will be in Vegas Jan 6th - Jan 9th so there will be around 250,000 people going to the show so all of the rates will be jacked up with very little availability. There are local publications like Vegas Inc., & Las Vegas Weekly that list the Dates and sizes of future Conventions.

In addition, if you are a Gambler you can sign up for the Hotels' Player clubs and receive room deals, comps and Resort Credits sent to you by the Hotel.
Generally, the further from the Center of " the Strip " you look the lower the rates. Hotels like the South Point or Station Casinos are usually less if you don't mind the drive / cab ride to go to " the Strip ". Lastly, Vegas dot com has some resources to find deals on all things Vegas.

If there is a big convention in town the weekday rates will be higher, otherwise the reverse is generally true. It doesn't really matter if its on or off strip... Its pretty much all or nothing in this town.

http://www.vegasmeansbusiness.com/pl...tion-calendar/

Take next week:
Furniture Mart: 50000 Jan 18-22
SHOT: 67000 Jan 20-23
Kitchen and Bath: 24000 Jan 20-22 (probably some overlap with Furniture)
Builders: 49000 Jan 20-22 (overlap with Furniture/Kitchen)
Adult Entertainment Expo: 25000 Jan 21-24
Surfaces: 25000 Jan 21-23 (overlap with Furniture/Kitchen/Builder)

If you figure that there's ~150,000 rooms in the area, if there's enough weekday business to take a huge chunk of rooms, you can expect the weekday rates to go up.

Weekend rates go out of control when there's a big event. Super Bowl? not that much. NASCAR, first weekend of March Madness, May (Mayweather fight, Rock in Rio for 2 weekends), EDC: gonna get nuts.
