So for Shayla and Cinnamonshark, while I am not the philosopher that Centaur or Loxly or Klovve are, I can provide the analogy of a popular series of movies, Oceans 11/12/13. In these movies, there is a large group of "thieves", each with their own skills. They work together towards their goal of stealing from "the Man"; the evil casinos in Las Vegas. We root for this team because we all recognize how corrupt the casinos really are. These Ocean members work together and often go beyond the call of duty to pull off the heist. They all get their share of the bounty and would never consider crossing their partners for a chance of greedily taking all the loot for themselves. This is the "honor" part.

All of us insiders have a vested interest is protecting the identities of the fellow board members.

In Oceans 12 the Ocean crew is under arrest in Italy and the character played by Matt Damon is intensely interrogated by a U.S. official. In the movie, it appears that he has spilled his guts and the team is being sent to prison in the U.S. This is what I meant as the house of cards collapsing. If someone here is somehow collecting compromising evidence or cooperating with LE that could damage people's business.

Let me first give a short primer for those of you who think you might be browsing safely. Click on one of these public sites which provide a free service of telling you what your IP address is:

http://www.whatismyip.com/

http://www.ip-address.org/

If it makes you feel safer, you can 'Google' "what is my IP" and visit one of the many sites which offer this service. Your IP address allows the world-wide computer servers to determine how to get the information your browser has requested back to you.

This IP address has a physical location. The physical location reported on these sites is pretty vague, but real hackers are able to pinpoint an apartment building or actual street address. If you use the same Computer or WIFI for your Real World activities, then it is possible<<<<<<<<PROBABLE that someone can correlate your RW with hobby activity and know everything about you. Facebook and several other internet sites do something similar with advertising.
For now, browsing from a cell phone provides more security, but that will probably change in the future.

With the website/corporation security break-ins you have seen in the news recently, more IP address/account identifications will be available on the black market.

If you search Eccie for the word "IP" you will see evidence that IP tracking is used. Sometimes this is a good thing. You wouldn't want ECCIE to give accounts to LE would you?

Privacy is probably a concern for many of you. Perhaps you would like ECCIE to adapt a Privacy Policy. Check out the bottom of the P411 site; they have one.

One of the good reasons for the policy is that ECCIE is distributed, with hundreds of Mods scattered around the world. All with access to this IP information. Not all of them are as security conscious as St Christopher... some may not even password protect their computer. Heck, some mods might be sharing this IP information with their hobbyist friends on a daily basis.

The risk is that there may be millions of dollars to be made through mass automated blackmails.
