Yes, that's fine, but imagine this.. So you have a hobby phone that you have to always hide somewhere.. Ok, your choice.. But before you go inside you check your email on your iPhone, make a work call, post something ok your facebook.... Nothing to do with the hobby.. Your location is still logged. You don't have to use your iPhone for the hobby, you just have to use your iPhone for anything while you're somewhere that you're not supposed to be.
The thing to remember is, this was on national news.. If you own an iPhone, just turn that setting off.

Excellent point. This warning really is important to any hobbyist who owns a smart phone, regardless if they have a separate hobby phone.

after clicking on that link, starting to wonder where my phone has been going. But it also adds what you've looked at going to on Google Maps because on May 5, I looked at how long it would take to get to Round Rock and that showed up on my Location history even though I didn't go there.
