I used to be the same exact way. I felt like if I admit to liking songs in a "Soft" genre I was somehow betraying my ROCK roots!
As I got older I realized this nugget of Wisdom:
"You like what you like. You don't need to understand WHY. Also, denying that you like it just creates discord in your soul AND it won't stop you from liking it any less...
So for greater happiness, just embrace what you are and live vividly."
The perfect example of this is in the 80's my sister LOVED hair bands. In particular Bon Jovi. Therefore I hated them. F'n posers! I liked Iron Maiden, Rush, Van Halen, Judas Priest.
Decades later (once no longer over-saturated by hearing these songs 10x a day) I heard "Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi and thought to myself (before my right-brain engaged) "I've always liked that song. I haven't heard it in so long. It is really VERY well performed."
Then right-brain caught up and was like WTF???? That's friggin
Bon Jovi you're "supposed to" hate them.
Then I realized it was silly. I really DO like a lot of their songs. LOL!
