I think customer service is one of many criteria for choosing a business, and in some cases people can forgive crap service when those other criteria are met.
1) Highly skilled -- the business is good at their job and everyone knows it. There used to be a BBQ place in the town where I grew up that had the best ribs bar none, and people didn't care if the owner was an ass. They stood in line and bought the ribs whenever the owner decided to open, and when he was out he closed the door and that was that.
2) Rare or unique skills/attributes -- if there's only one business that has what you want or need, you put up with some shit you wouldn't do otherwise. There's a reason that foreign car mechanics often have crappy reputations.
