  • Remove temporary Internet files.
  • Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).
  • Empty the Recycle Bin.
  • Remove Windows temporary files such as error reports.
  • Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.
  • Remove installed programs that you no longer use.
  • Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.

For the showcase issue...

http://eccie.net/announcement.php?f=315

As for the slowness issue...

It would be quite helpful if you provided the following about your particular situation...

  • Operating system
  • Browser
  • Does slowness affect ECCIE alone or does it affect other sites
  • Time of day when the slowness occurs
  • Frequency of the occurrences

The more information we have, the better the chances of resolving the issue.

Mokoa,
Eccie runs slow for me every day all day. It takes forever for pages to open and it always says "timed out". Then I have to click on that and wait for the page to load again. Other sites that I'm on hobbying or just perusing online aren't like this. There is no
checking something really quick for me on here. Kind of poopy .

If the source of the slowness is within the Internet or this site itself, none of those suggestions, or any others, to clean out your machine will make any difference.

Now, do not get me wrong.

All of those suggestions are very good for keeping your machine running well. There are programs out there that do just that. The one I always recommend is CCleaner. A free program that is very good at cleaning out the, shall we say, deadwood. You may find it here...

CCleaner

Viruses and malware can also cause slowness on a system so be sure you have software to detect and remove them and keep that software current. Some very good free programs for that are...

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Avast! Anti-Virus
Microsoft Security Essentials

Something else that you may want to have is Revo Uninstaller. A lot of programs have uninstallers to do not clean up after themselves very well. Revo is very good at uninstalling programs and then afterward sweeping the system looking for leftovers and removing them.

Revo Uninstaller

Thank you Paven. That kind of information will be helpful and I will forward it to the Techies. Can you answer any of the items I listed earlier in the post above yours?

Ccleaner rocks, right mouse click on your trash bin, click "run Ccleaner", ok, and your computer is scrubbed clean.
