Default What is going on?

http://maggiemcneill.wordpress.com/2...0%99s-a-start/

Laws changed in the city a few years ago, but it seems there have been more arrests in the past year. I understand human trafficking, drugs, etc but why does there seem to be an increase in stings? Am I missing something? Did I misunderstand the change in the law?

Where does the line get drawn? What is the difference in Sugar Babies and escorts?

I have always been careful, but now I am overly cautious....if there is such a thing.

Any thoughts or comments?

Heidi - that was the NOLA City Council's doing several years ago. Has no effect outside the jurisdiction of that council and apparently has no effect on the scumbags running the NOLA police department.

There are several reasons the stings continue ...

1. Escorts are WOMEN and usually unarmed, so they are a safe way for police to exercise their machismo in a city of otherwise very armed and dangerous criminals. Why fuck with a gangsta when they can fuck with you and still get paid the same and not have to risk harm for themselves?

2. They're scumbags - see the aftermath of Katrina and the NOLA Police Commissioner's impotent "attempt" (if you can call it that) at reforming the department.

3. Human Trafficking is BIG BUCKS. They make up a story about how YOU are "trafficked" and tell it to the feds who will give them money to "save" you. Of course - "saving" you means crushing your livelihood and liberty - but they don't give a shit. Several federal agencies will give $$ to local police departments to help them get rid of this imaginary problem. Human Trafficking is literally a self-licking ice cream cone.

Sugar Babies and Escorts? No difference. I don't personally see any difference between porn actors and escorts either.

Don't get me started on this crap. When I moved to NOLA many years ago I went online to check out the sex offenders in my neighborhood and was astonished to find that most of them were WOMEN who were busted for "crimes against nature". Sorry - but I don't feel that an escort who was unfortunate enough to be busted by a bunch of controlling dickheads is a threat to my kids. THAT has now changed though.

This is what they were doing only a couple of years ago and it was complete bullshit ...

By the way - still hundreds, perhaps thousands of women out there who still have a license that looks like this because when they repealed the law - they made it mandatory that the women PETITION to get if off their license instead of just automatically removing it. Petty.

Its a way for fed/state agencies to justify their budgets. The lull in terrorism made them look for a new crusade to save everyone from. Even the runaway house in BR has been re-branded to a human-traffing shelter.

I think it is definitely all about federal funding. The war on drugs has been replaced with the war on human trafficking.

great post and ditto on the answers! I think that the focus has been so rampant on catching the guys trafficing underage prostitution that other facets of the hobby world get caught up in it also! I have a client in the midwest who is a sex offender registeror for the vice....he says that they have busted several agencys in his town due to having girls working that were under 17...I have seen on several of the cop shows that are centered on stings, that the girls who "LOOK" under 17 get trageted most {even though they may be over 18}!!

You can NEVER be too cautious...I made ONE small mistake 5 years ago and will never make that one again! So do what ya gotta do to be safe and all will work out!!

EXACTLY! The war on drugs is LOST and Americans are tired of it and it's about to end.

Time to find a new gravy train!!

Dallas - don't get me wrong here - I would NEVER EVER see a girl under the age of 18 and I prefer much older women ... I'm not one that chases the young-uns. A very awesome ECCIE lady that I just can't get enough of once told me ... "If you can't bring a bottle of wine to a date with an escort without the threat of being busted for promoting underaged drinking - you don't belong with her!" Good advice but ...

The age of consent in many states is 16. If the state has already decided that a girl is old enough to make the decision to have sex at that age - then I don't see what the point is of attempting to control who she has sex with - and under what circumstances of "compensation". All sex at that age is lousy sex anyways so I don't see a big deal in a gal that age asking for compensation.

15 years old and below - I get angry about but I'm a very "conservative" Libertarian on the issue. A lot of folks would say that a 13 year old should be old enough to make intelligent decisions but I'm not quite that far along in the thinking just yet.

I was 17 when I lost my virginity to a 35 year old divorced woman. I was literally her "pool boy" and she was very kind and caring for my needs and accepting of my shortcomings - which were the same that all boys have at that age. Technically, she's a sex offender but I thank God for that woman. Her name was "Gwinette" and that is still my favorite name for a woman to this day. I actually saw her again two years ago and she's still beautiful even though she's closing in on 70 years old now.

One thing we aren't taking into account is "mission creep." This means when a bureaucracy needs to find something to do to justify its existence. The Human Trafficking thing was Mission Creep right out of the box for ICE, which basically needed to justify its existence after creation.

The other aspect of "Mission Creep" though, is true for ALL cops, ALL prosecutors, ALL aspects of LE: w/crime rates nation-wide @ 20 year lows and still falling, they still want to be employed & get paid. To do that, they have to concentrate on stuff that didn't used to be a big deal: and now, since there are fewer murders, fewer rapes, etc., all major crimes dropping since 1993--they have time and CAN concentrate on smaller stuff. Sure, you meet the occasional cop who's honest about the Drug War, but he's not turning in all the fancy goodies the feds gave him; DA's can belly-ache about clogged dockets all they want, but they don't really care: after things are charged & someone's life already ruined, THEN they'll kick a bunch of little stuff to make time for a murder trial, IF they need to--but dollars-to-(cop)doughnuts the poor shmuck winds up pleading to SOMETHING. So much of what happens up there is saving face for bureaucrats so "everyone can walk away w/something." Hey that's great if you're buying a house, but it sucks when it's your ass on the line. Makes me sick. And sad.
