Does LE Require Hotel Owner Permission for Stings?

If a city's local LE decides it wants to use an undercover woman as an escort operating out of a hotel room, do they need the express permission of the owner or manager to do so?

Which leads to my second question. If a hotel manager or owner decides to not cooperate with LE, does that basically insure that anyone you meet in a room there isn't undercover?

I'm guessing they can send a male undercover in to meet a BP girl without needing anyone's permission, but operating a sting from a room needs permission. So I'm wondering if a hotel known for having escorts there means it's at least safe from LE if you're meeting someone.

Considering some of the stings that have occurred in the DFW area, I would say your logic is very wrong.

Try this logic:

During a sting, LE wants to have control of the situation. Therefore, they would prefer to have the room wired, with easy access for backup cops to bust in and protect the undercover cop. Doesn't matter whether it is a female or male undercover cop, they want to minimize risk.

With that logic, male cop will probably be looking for an OUTCALL while a female cop would probably be looking for INCALL appointments.

Around DFW area, one of the things they are looking to do is shut down the low-life motels that cater to prostitution. They are using multiple statutes to do so it appears. They use zoning regulations, if they can show multiple arrests for prostitution, they use laws on the books to declare the motel a nuisance, etc. I don't see any reason why LE would show their hand to the motel operators, who are frequently getting a cut to wink and turn their head while these activities go on. Sometimes, the hotel employees are probably the pimp even.

While BR is probably not as sophisticated with dealing with prostitution as opposed to DFW area, just because of the size of BR in comparison to DFW, I bet the influx of people from NO after Katrina has required them to step up their game.

I think the OP uses tortured logic to conclude the more hookers in a hotel, the less likely it is for a John to get busted in said hotel. For example, many attempts to enforce prostitution laws are initated by citizen complaints. Suppose Chenier stays in the Gator Motel in Baton Rouge and notices hookers galore in the establishment. He might call his cousin, Arceneaux, and tell him, "Ew, lawdy, Eyes-en-oh! I done see me da LOTSA fillies done sallin dere poochies done at da Gata Motale!"

My guess is that the closest thing to permission that they need is simply to rent a room.

LE can simply go to a motel and ask to see the guest roster. They will then check all guests for warrants…

…I’ve been at certain notels and LE just rolls up…checks the guest list and then goes door to door to arrest people for outstanding warrants. I’ve seen this happen two times at the notels that I’ve had “entertainment”….and assume the owners have no choice but to cooperate with LE…

….I usually make the dancer/provider get a room in her name but it can be risky if you think the provider has warrants and LE will show up unannounced.

For hotel/motel stings…I’m assuming the LE agency compensates the owner for rooms and time. I think it’s in the best interest of a legit hotel/motel to cooperate with LE vs. not and then having LE come down on their establishment.
