I don't know how they estimated it so quickly, but they say it had an explosive force of 300K tons of TNT.
That's about 30 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. I have my doubts about the accuracy of that estimate. That meteor would have to be at least 10 miles high to avoid flattening that city.
