For those who don't care to click through:
Super Bowl Is Single Largest Human Trafficking Incident In U.S.
Quote:
...
According to Forbes, 10,000 prostitutes were brought to Miami for the Super Bowl in 2010 and 133 underage arrests for prostitution were made in Dallas during the 2011 Super Bowl.
Greenlee, a former sex trafficking victim who was abducted and raped by her captors at 12, told the Times-Picayune that she was shuttled around cities in the South to work as a prostitute at large-scale events. The 53-year-old, who now works as an advocate for sex trafficking victims in Louisiana, said there was immense pressure to meet her traffickers’ demands at events like the Super Bowl.

The number 10,000 surprises me, but the fact that it happens on a large scale doesn't. Its sad really, just very very sad...

i agree that there are lots of people who traffic other people for their own financial gain, or worse.
the 10,000 number was much bandied about when the superbowl was at jerry's playpen back in 2011.
from what i remember from post-gam articles, it was a good round number used to drum up the business of law enforcement.
133 arrests is a significant number. wonder how many pimps/managers they arrested?
and what was the conviction rate and average money/prison penalty?
btw, wonder if the NFL will ever get rid of roman numerals?
how many viewers even understand the roman numbering system??
the only one i'm interested in is LXIX :^)

I feel for those forced into that mess. With that being said, I know of many strippers here in Wichita that make the trip to the superbowl and come back with a sweet lump sum of mula. They make a lot of money at these after parties the players have. Of course, some girls don't come back cuz some wonderful pimp scooped them up. I much rather choose to enjoy such big events from a distance around the people I love!

The Forbes story and others like it are just so much pandering media bullsh**. Read the Honest Courtesan for a more accurate appraisal of what those numbers really mean.

Right. And the most recent follow up directed specifically at the Forbes blurb:
http://maggiemcneill.wordpress.com/2...-that-was-136/
For those of you who aren't already familiar with her, I heartily recommend her blog to all here, not just us guys. Former librarian, turned stripper/whore/madam in New Orleans, now retired and blogging as the Honest Courtesan, she is an ardent, articulate and prolific supporter of whores and whoredom everywhere. She is an outspoken libertarian, and whether you agree with what she says or not, she is intelligent, thought-provoking, and frequently funny as hell.

I checked that site out and although it is very interesting and factual, I guess I don't like how she refers to herself and other providers as whores. Whore sounds very degrading when a lady speaks of herself and other ladies.

I think it is probably one of those empowerment situations, like gays using "queer" and lesbians using "dyke". An "I claim this word so you can't use it against me" sort of thing.
